I was jsut wondering but when I shut my rear lift gate it seems like that gas strut back there is doing nothing at all. I mean that I have to make sure that I shut the thing or else it sounds like the glass is going to break out of the liftgate and it seems like I have to do it extremely easy to the point where I think that the gas strut isn't doing anything at all. What do you all think? Is it just time for a new gas strut...the car only has 25k on it?

 

Mine raises just fine, but on the way down just before halfway there is no resistance. Can't drop it from to far up, maybe a few inches, but I also have that big a@@ wing on my lid.

 

It is just a prop, nothing else. The mechanical advantage is lost when the angle gets too small. As long as it does not bean you it is doing its intended job.
