Default Side bumper strips!

After several weeks of searching for the right color, mileage and transmission we finally managed to buy a Xfire coupe last weekend. However, based on my experience with previous cars I know that (in England) it is only a matter of time before the side of the car gets covered in small dints and scratches from other drivers carelessly opening their doors into it (in car parks etc). Has anyone got a “protective” solution to this (other than never parking)? I was wondering if there is any kind of clip-on side strip that can be attached to the car (only) when it is parked up, or if anyone has come up with a DIY solution. Maybe this is not a problem elsewhere in the world, but every car that I have owned in Britain has been damaged in this way and I don’t want to see it happen to this one.

Brilliant - thanks for the reference. I will have a go at Patpur's clever system (despite my wife saying that it will look stupid).

Since first asking the question I have found a company who make and sell (worldwide) something called a “Magnetic Door Defender”. They are (in my opinion) less appealing than the suction versions above (which I cannot find in the UK), but you can buy them in pairs online. The original USA company website is http://www.doordefender.com and someone selling them in the UK can be found at Cushioned and Magnetic car door protection system - More Than Polish. They stick to the door magnetically and have a security cable that you lock inside. That said, I have just bought some foam pipe insulation tubes (3 inch diameter) and I intend to follow the instructions and make my own.
