Default Exterior Light indicator - without reason?

Hi lately my stock 2005 XF Limited roadster (30000 miles) has been showing the exterior light failure dash indicator randomly - though I don't see any bulb problems. All turn signals, brake lights, head lights, hi/low beams work fine. I thought maybe it was the license plate light but the manual does not list it as being covered by the Exterior Light indicator.

Thanks

Did you check the 4 side-markers as well?

License plate lamps and all 4 side markers. The license plate lamps have gotten lots of folks here...

Yep! License plate marker. Talk about a scavenger hunt. They didn't skimp on the details here. Nice.

The sad news - or good news depending on how you look at it - is I ran an OBD scan to see if it could tell me which light was out. Instead I got the big
P0335 - Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction

No check engine light and still purrs like a kitten. Glad I found it though. Still under extended warranty. Let's see if any dealer will honor it... Thanks guys!

BTW - did search before posting and couldn't find what I needed. I hope this helps someone in the future.

Don't feel too bad. The CS pos. sens. is an easy fix. Often, from what I understand, it's the connector to the sensor that's at fault. Poor design or something along those lines.

Glad you found it in your garage and not in some dark parking lot!

I had the same problem and I was stumped but then finally realized it was the plate light

Ha! light went on last night, I did the once around the car with no finds. Light went off a short while later. Next time it goes on I'll know where to check. Crossfire.org rules

Have the same problem today on the Limited. Just before pulling into the garage the bulb out light came on. I have DRL's so all lights on all the time. I did a walk around and didn't find any lights out. Both license plate lights are working, I changed one about a week ago, all side markers, I pulled the lenses to be sure, positioning lights in the headlamps are OK, high and low beam, all signals work and brake lights work, I checked the fogs but I still get that darn light! I ended up removing my HID's and replaced with stock bulbs just to be sure, but no love light is still on. I tried to check the back-up lights, ignition on run position and car in reverse but no lights. Should they be on or does the car need to be running? Any ideas?

OK problem solved! Back-up light fuse was blown...............any one else find a blown fuse would trigger bulb out indicator? Now I gotta re-install HID's ........what a PITA!!!!
