Default Plate imprint in rear bumper...Opinions ?

While cleaning the Roadster I just purchased I noticed something and I have no idea how this could happen.

Below the Plate on the rear bumper ,right of center is the faint impression of a plate with marks for all 4 plate bolt holes. It almost looks like a die line molded into the bumper but I doubt that.
Its a perfect shape of a plate or plate frame. There is no metal that a dealer could have stuck a magnetic plate holder to. It way too deep to polish out as you can catch the edge with a finger nail.
Any ideas or thoughts ?

It looks like someone rear ended or the PO backed into another car and left the impression.
Is the paint and bumper flexible enough to do this without creasing or cracking ?

Thanks

It looks like it could have been from another car bumping it.

~ i know exactly what happened...

while your car was parked in a parking lot... someone pulled in behind you and they bumped your car with their front bumper and license plate... the outcome... their 4 bolts holding on their plate has just left an impression on your car.

the only solution... have the marks filled and repaint the bumper. (it's happened to me too.)

Wow, that is strange. You see everything when you hand wash a car. I have often thought that it should be done as a pre purchase item. Wonder how this would go over. Sir, I am interested in buying your car but I would like to wash it first. LOL

That is one of the greatest ideas I've heard in a long time! Take it out for a test drive and bring it back spotless 30 minutes later!

see/repair them all the time. Its from another plate for sure but the outline of the plate itself is odd, its just usually half circles from the license plate bolts. Some cars are simply riddled with them from parking garages mostly. We had one car that took a hit to the front so hard that the actual outline of the numbers got imprinted into the bumper!

Has to be sanded, filled and blended.

I would bet another car was parked up against it overnight or for a few days in the driveway. Just a thought.

Thats what made it weird to me, I guess it could be the outline of a plate Frame ? Oh Well, I only really notice it when I am washing it.

Mrs Inferno has a blemish in her red rear bumper (no jokes guys). It was there when we bought her Xfire and it drives me nuts every time I wash it.

I too didn't notice it until I did the first hand wash.

How about a heat gun and a flat roller - soften the plastic with the heat gun and use the roller to even out the impression? You would have to be EXTREMELY careful not to overheat/melt/burn the plastic...I don't know if the paint or the clearcoat could take the heat, though.

Just a thought...
