Instrument Cluster Light Color Swap! Help make my dream a reality!
Hi all,
Spring break is coming up for me...and that means it's PROJECT TIME!
I've searched through the forum and found some great pictures of instrument clusters...but not a whole lot of information on how to change the bulbs or even what kind they are
I was hoping someone out there knows the answer to these questions...so here goes (If you can only answer even ONE that would be fantastic!):
1. Are the bulbs in the instrument cluster (tachometer, speedometer, temp/fuel gauges) LEDs or just regular bulbs?
2. Are they twist-lock bulbs?
3. I realize there is a film on the other side of the gauges....(green)....and it must be rubbed/scraped off in order to change the color...i'm looking to go with a cool WHITE. Does anyone know of a website that sells lighting TAPE? and/or would tape even be necessary?
4. Are the red parts (low fuel, high temp, high RPM) of the gauges also covered in film...or are they painted (i.e. permanent)
5. Has anyone changed the color of the needles in the gauges? I was looking to change them to a deep purple (Ultraviolet Light). I'm thinking to solution is to stick with the WHITE bulbs but tape the backside of the needles PURPLE.
Thank you everyone in advance! I hope this thread becomes very active over the next two months...
I'm planning on starting this project mid April, and If I do, expect an extensive write-up and lots of pictures!
Also, here is a picture of Cross-fired's cluster which I slightly modified on Microsoft paint to show my desired look!

Thanks,
Eric Henderson

I'll keep searching, and good to know they're twist lock! Makes life a lot easier...
