Any pointers in what to do and not to do?

 

Don't collect money until you have a proven design. Be prepared to absorb all the risk up front.

Also be mindful that only 20% of the people interested will actually step forward and purchase the product after you commit the time and money to produce the product.

5 of 20 will actually be ready to pay.


Be prepared to take a 3k or more loss period.

Also be prepared to have 20% of all hood shipped cracked during transit.

You will have to personally package each hood to help prevent transit damage.

45min a hood with $20 of material per hood.

FedEx is the best and I would say only way you should ship this type of product.

100% insured shipping was $190 anywhere in the USA with my business account.

Before I had the business account it was $200 - $550 depending on drop off location .... residential or business with loading dock.


So that can add up to $300 + just to get the product to the door.....

We had a list at first, a feeler. Then we got approx 25+. Now we slowly have built it up with fully committed ppl to a 22+ ppl. Money, warranty, shipping will all be dealt with ViS directly.

 

I just sent ViS an email to initiate everything. Now I am awaiting a full plan and schedule from their side.

I'm getting antsy. How long did they say it will take to mock up renderings, etc?

 

VIS, don't you go all Speedriven or Corky on us. Getter done and done right! Not that I have any inclination that they'll fail, just saying our luck hasn't been the best. Faith, peace, hoods, diffusers and great VIS stuff for us.

LMAO....I'm all but done...hood or no hood. One more mod and it is build my X-90 into the meanest Suzuki you have even seen... OK, I might have got a little carried away. I will camo it...and if, it snows again, I'm going to put a snow blade on it....lol. ZUKI time. Once I get Rudy cornered, we may put a 3.2 liter S/C V-6 in it. OK< OK This is the HOOD thread. We are waiting on a HOOD for the HOODLEMS... I am back on track....hood mod...for ole' blue.

 

Status update:

I had my main man Walter to pop by the ViS office to chech things out and talk to Fred.
I am awaiting confirmation on things but I wanted Walter to pop by to really show we mean business and that we want our hoods now. (Diffusors aswell)

As said, still waiting to get info from Fred directly but this is what Walter could retrieve from the meet up earlier today:

The guy with the cool stash on photos below is Fred
The hoods in the waiting hall looked real good (actually somewhat close to our designs)
All the hoods are made in China
Start date looks like mid February
Walters hood may be needed to be shipped to China

On a side note,

I have talked to Seibon and they need 40 ppl otherwise we need to pay 5k for the mold + that the hood they make the mold from will not be returned. So Seibon seem to be a no go.

Yep. As said, I would rather have it made locally (that I thought it was) but it looks like PRC. However, got the info 2nd hand so I am awaiting a long mail from Fred. Will keep you posted.

Just because it's China doesn't mean it's bad. It just means they'll make it as good or cheap as asked with no qualms about it. But I have to admit, I just got acid reflux.

no not yet. Walter have been there talking to Fred at ViS and it looks like we will start everything in february. I will update here as soon as I hear anything. Just be patience on this.

 

I'm not judging, but it won't come in at the price you hoped for. Too much shipping and duties and.....you get he picture. I have not had much luck with Chinese parts lately, and I have had a few with the Suzuki build. I don't think even Japan is making parts anymore. I still here, but it doesn't look promising and I certainly won't pay more for a Chinese knock off. So, hopefully quality and price hold true.
