Drain off strips on roof not staying flush and brush strokes on touch up paint
Hi All,
I removed the 2 drain off strips on the roof with the rubber trim underneath because the metal was exposed, so I took them off to paint with touch up paint, I've fitted them back where they were but I can't get the trim pieces to stay flush, they keep popping up near the front windscreen end, Wish I just painted in situ.
I've got the small notched out piece near the rear windscreen which I assume is the correct way, they are quite curved.
I've put some glue underneath and 10kg weight for a a day, but they keep popping up, any ideas how best I can get them down for good? If I bought 2nd hand replacement ones would I have the same issue? They were fixed down properly before I removed them.
Also, I'm not too happy with the final look of the bodywork areas I've touched up with touch up paint, it's the correct stuff, but I can see brush marks, it looks different to the surrounding bodywork, I used the touch up paint sparingly, It's all dried on now, what would be the best course of action too wet sand it off or would I need to use a buffer type machine.

Remove the windscreen surround trim, upper center piece comes off first, so you can see what you are doing
Sand the roof "drain off strips" off the car, sand smooth and use spray paint not a brush.
reinstall the roof strips when color coat and top coat ( or single sage paint ) is completely dry and hard.
Looks like the windscreen surround trim needs painting also. May as well get them painted while they are off the car
Reinstall the windscreen trim with new double sided tape..
Most auto paint supply stores can give you the OEM paint code in a rattle can.
Re: Drain off strips on roof not staying flush and brush strokes on touch up paint
thanks for the guidance, I was actually looking at getting the drain off strips installed flat as they are slightly raised near the bonnet end, after some manipulatng they are now less raised, so good enough for the time being, may need to revisit in future, cheers.
