Default Car Cover Gold Shield 5L Review

I just bought the CarCover.Com branded car cover for my Crossfire. I got the extra special super duper Gold Shield 5L at 149.99. This is how it came packaged:

Gold Shield 5L packaging.

It was vacuum packaged and hard as a brick.

Car covered brick and about just as hard

I have my car up on jacks working on the transmission.

It repels water and kept the car dry underneath

Comments:
For the price, I think it's a good value. Car Cover is Canadian so it's nice to buy something from our north american neighbors. No telling the source. The Cover came with a bag for storage, a cable lock to keep people from just easy stealing it, and a tie down strap. It comes with a life time warranty. Considering I going to keep this car for along time, so let's see. In a year I will visit this review and comment.

Cons:
can't tell if it's on correctly or backwards.
I have to take off the antenna otherwise it bends it over. I am going to make me some kind of support to protect the antenna.

IMHO at $150 bucks (and ?, tax & shipping as well?), it should have come with a cutout/sleeve for the roadster antenna (unless it was only made for the coupe?).

150 bucks ... no taxes and free shipping. Considering this cover was "very economical" it's not that custom. No mirror pockets and no pocket for the radio antenna.

I have a Coverking for my roadster. I put it on mainly as a dust cover but it is weather resistant. I just unscrew the antenna. I didn't want to cut a hole in it in case I do have to leave the car outside.
It's a little pricey, but it has the mirror pockets which makes it easier to put on.

Huh(?), OK, and? Shame ppl don't have sense enough to add these things to products outright (which was my OBSERVATION, not a complaint). Might sell a lot more of them (and again, this wasn't about an as-is post for a used item).

Looks like the same cover (CoverKing Class 2 Silverguard) I have on my 2007 Limited Coupe. Does a nice job of protecting car since it is parked outside in the driveway.

Simple thing to do, as stated in previous post(s) in this thread, is to just unscrew the mast & lay it in the DS footwell, behind the DS seat or place it in the trunk.

One year review!

OK I have a handle on the CarCover.COM website. They offer a lifetime warranty with the cover I bought. See marketing info pic below:

Car Cover Gold Shield

The lifetime warranty is the same owner and non-transferable. So after a year of hard use in the South Carolina Sun, my started disintegrating and leaving crap all over my car. Here is the top part of the cover.

YEACH nobody wants that

So I contacted them and sent pics and my purchase information. They approved my warranty with a catch:

After careful analysis of your situation, we are pleased to inform you that you qualify for a replacement cover. As per our terms and conditions of your warranty, a fee of $44.99 per cover is applicable based on the order date.
To proceed with the payment, kindly contact us at 1-800-916-6041 Ext: #8. Please be advised that our department operates Monday To Friday from 7 AM to 3 PM EST.
So I paid the 45 bucks and just got my new cover and it's on my car.

Back under wraps

Conclusion

It's a scam.

The cover did not even last a year, it was breaking down after 10 months. Of course it's South Carolina and been a very hot year. So the original price is $150. I paid for a new replacement at $45. So basically at the original price I had bought cheap cover at several times over. The $45 replacement price is possible cost plus shipping with a profit margin of 10%. If you look online on amazon there are several cheap car covers in the same price range that should last a year in the full sun.

The cover was not bad for the 10 months it lasted but still at 150 bucks I expected several years of life.

I have a Coverking. I use it mainly when I'm working in the garage to protect the car. I also use it if I have to leave the car outside overnight.
I like it because of the mirror pockets and the writing is on the front, so I always know which way it goes.
I can't say how well it will hold up over outside for a year.

I use a Coverking Class 2 Silverguard car cover I bought thru Amazon in OCT/2022. Cost me $184 before tax (PRIME shipping free). Looks a lot like the one M60A3Driver posted in this thread. I keep the 2007 Coupe outside all the time & the car cover stays on always. After nearly 2 years of SC temps (hot & cold) plus various rain & storm events, it was beginning to show quite a bit a dirt & grime from that exposure. (Note: The coupe has always stayed well protected with this cover.) So I recently washed the car cover at a local self-service laundromat. Used a large commercial washing machine & 1 Tide pod using only cold water. When the wash cycle was finished, I took the car cover out of the washer, took it home & let it dry sitting on the Crossfire. The car cover looks like new & shows no signs of any significant wear. I'll take some pictures & post later this morning.

Besides the exposure to the elements, we've got foxes in our neighborhood & for some reason as yet unknown, they like to get on top of the Crossfire & our 2016 VW Beetle Dune Coupe (visible behind the Crossfire in the 1st picture posted). Both cars are too nice to just let the local animal life climb up on top & rest! They've started sitting on our 'new-to-us' 2021 Bronco Sport the past couple of weeks! I guess my driveway is like a 'jungle-gym' to the foxes!!

Thanks! Nice pictures of a cool yard. When this cover wears out, I will be looking for a new one myself.
