OK, I know, it's just a TV show, but I was watching Mythbusters last night. The show was about busting speeding ticket myths. One of the myths was that if you drove past a traffic camera at high enough speed the delay between the radar and picture snapping would allow you to be gone before the picture was taken.

That doesn't even sound plausible, but they decided to test it by driving past a radar equipped traffic camera. They said they would drive past it REALLY fast. Not so much.

The best they could do in their Dodge Neon was 100mph. How lame is that? I know it's a Neon, but WTF? I know the thing can do at least 120mph.

Then they PROVED how ****-poor drivers they are by using a Lamborghini Murcielago. The BEST they could do in that was 130-something!!! Are you kidding me!?!?!?!?! I've had my 200 hp 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse up to 143 mph. I _KNOW_ I could get a 633 horsepower Lambo over 150 - at least! Hell, I think it was Steve Hellums on this forum that posted a speed over 170 in his Crossfire.

To make it all even more shameful, they had a "professional" driver drive the Lambo, and they still didn't crack 140. Come on folks! Let someone in there that CAN drive. Sheesh.

they're running out of ideas, and sometimes their experiments are never really done correctly.

I think a better show would be, how to properly destroy a traffic camera system with out being caught.

 

In Germany, I hear they like to put plastic bags over the cameras. They used to spray paint the lenses, but getting busted for vandalism wasn't pretty in Deutchland.

 

good idea, or maybe paint ball guns? I've heard about the guys in the UK would unscrew the access plate in the base of the camera pole, and pour in gasoline, light it up and run! lol

 

You used to see quite a few with a tyre dropped over them and set alight.

 

Where they on a 3 mile long closed course????

 

A Man in Knoxville, just about a month ago, took one out with a rifle ! 5 shots in a nice grouping. Too bad he was standing in front of it. He got caught.

 

I've dreamt of doing just that to the left turn arrow a couple blocks from my house.

 

I saw that one too.........I liked the idea of using a prismatic reflective coating to keep from reflecting radar?

I think Maxwell is right......they are running out of ideas!

 

It's a shame that the radar absorbing paint they put on the F-117 Stealth Fighter is so damn expensive and damn ugly!
