Should we clean up our Database?

This info is shown under statistics on the home screen. It would be impossible to try to contact every member who ever registered here and has gone inactive and many probably don't have the same email either.

Run another filtered search and delete all those that did not log on...
no?
Just a thought.
Gotcha VALKRYDERGUY. I was just joking around.
I've only been a member of a few forums and never known one to delete non-participating members. I think showing the number of members (either active or inactive) only strengthens the forum's value. I would like to change my vote to not delete anyone.

I'm assuming that not everyone on this forum has listed their email addresses so contacting them that way is impossible. If you're attempting to clean up a database of non or nearly non-partcipating members then contacting them through the forum is, well, silly.
So, I would agree with Gary: there really is no way to contact them.
I lurked on this forum for months before joining any discussions mostly because I wanted to learn everything I could about this car before & after purchasing it. In addition, I wouldn't of felt comfortable adding my 2 cents worth if I first, was a complete idiot about our common love & second, if I didn't think the people that populate this forum were worth a dam_.
I think we should remove those "members" that are no longer active. If we whack a member who still occasionally participates well then he/she can always re-sign. There is an alternative. It's not like we're preventing them from ever rejoining, should they choose to do so.
Zappa has a valid point pertaining to those who post just for the heck of it (like yours truly) & those who are looking for some meaning. In that case though, they can still lurk.
By the way, Zap, he really is dead, more's the pity..........

Just an example of the people we're talking about....here's a simple experiment.
1. Click on the members list in the header of this webpage.
2. Sort the members list by "last visit"
You'll find that page 106 is the last page that has the members that have logged on this year. There's 461 pages total, that's a lot of inactive members!
Julian does a great job of administering this site for us, and I commend FP for looking ahead and trying to spot a problem before it rears it's ugly head. Given that Julian no longer owns a X-fire, and already has had to change servers this year, maybe we should be looking for a way to have a little smaller "footprint" if you will.

i would say boot the ones that have not logged in in 6 months, the limit on posts is not really a good test,as we have seen many use this forum as a social chit chat site and post a lot of irrelevent idol chatter that is of no real use to anyone, some of my posts included.
at first i thought you were talking about cleaning up the cheesecake and bikini pics,i would vote definatly no to that. BTW i think the poll should read MORE than 6 months of inactivity?
Good Lord, that's a lot of inactives.
I'm sticking with my ealier post!

I look at the situation in a different view now. I know I was impressed when I was first able to register here and saw 13,000+ registered members. I thought this is quite a site to generate that much interest among Crossfire owners. Now I realize only about 13% of the 13,000+ actually are or have participated over the not too distant past. Having 1748 active members is quite an accomplishment compared to another forum (non-XFire) of mine, where our total membership was culled to less than 2000 under similar circumstances and roughly 10% actually participate as posters.
I'm new here and I'm trying to be as active as I can. Participation is the name of the game when it comes to forums on the Net. Without it, there would be no forums. There would be no interaction between people. There would be no new friendships made. There would be no interests shared.
If the powers-to-be feel they want to eliminate inactive members, do it and be done with it. After all, the people we communicate with on a regular basis will still be here.

I would not focus on post counts. Many people log in to peruse, but don't post much. They should not be deleted.
Just my .02

I believe that in a prior thread somewhere, sometime, that it was stated that if you delete someone, all of their posts and threads get deleted along with their ID. I would not want to lose that wealth of information that would go with them.
Can Mighty or Andrew ring in on this and supply us with the right information???

I don't see any value in deleting members who haven't posted or visited in a certain amount of time. Who cares if we have 13k members but only ~2k active ones? I wish I could go through and delete all of the obvious SPAM accounts that signed up, but I don't have the time for it. Other than that, if you register, you'll always be a member unless you're banned. I didn't see any compelling reasons posted as to why we would want to delete these inactive members, and I've never heard of any other forum doing something like that.

That's the only reason I can think of.

It would be nice to shorten up the member list to those who are active or at least have logged in in the past 6 months.
I think that was the main reason that this thread was posted.

Don't delete me. I won't go quietly. I'm sure glad that I logged in. Imagine coming "home" and finding someone felt I should start from scratch. Shame on all of you "deleters". And I thought the XFI crowd was elitist.

On a different note, how hard is to get someone banned? There is a certain SRT-6 Roadster owner that needs a permanent vacation from us. I've never known anyone to be banned since I've been here, but I'm sure it's possible.
