I'm considering doing a Superman bible study for my Church. I'd like to show the comparison that Superman has to Jesus Christ and the way he is the Christ like figure we should all strive to be. Ok here is my question, I think I could reach a young and old audience with this, but If your church did a 4 week bible study on Sunday night on Superman. Would you check it out?

For example, if you were to compare many different 20th century notions of "superman", for example, including the Nietzschean Ubermensch, Dostoevsky's Idiot, Jerry Siegel's Superman, etc to Christ then I would be interested.
But if it was just "Superman saved people ergo, ipso facto, Christos" then I wouldn't attend. Latin or not.

I can't believe I'm reading this crap. You do realize don't you that Superman is fictional, but if your buying the other biblical stuff also, go for it but not on the forum please. Carry it out by PM. Don't you realize you are offending some people. It's just as bad as ringing my doorbell and trying to convert me presuming I know nothing of religion. It's very insulting. Let me worry about my own sorry ***.
Next thing will be comparing Buddha to Batman etc.
You asked for opinions and now you have mine.

I find this a bit odd and sad that the best that can be taught is to compare Jesus to Superman. Small wonder why more people in America convert to Islam than Christianity.
I think for todays youth it is a fine application between fiction and reality. Some of our greatest books, movies, all fictional characters are obviously based on Christianity in one form or another. I think some people might be taking this out of context, it's not like anyone is saying Superman is God.
Just look at the similarities??? Last son sent to earth to save the human race? That is just the first and most obvious connection that can be related.
But than again, I'm no Pastor, so who am I to judge???

AMEN!!
I thought this was a forum for cars (specifically the Chrysler Crossfire), but i guess I am wrong. I think there is another forum that was meant to discuss religion. This is the crap that adds to the millions of threads that make it impossible to find anything you are looking for that is car related.

I believe that is why the thread was started in the forum
CrossfireForum.org > Off Topic > General > Opinions wanted
So personally I wouldn't look under this topic for car info, but to each his own.

By the way, religon is the root of all evil..Just my opinion.

I come here to read stuff about the Chrysler Crossfire, and when this is what comes up when I click NEW POSTS, it is hard to ignore becasue i am expecting to see some sort of modififcation to a car, instead I am bombarded with a religous discussion.
I am not knocking religon or anybody on this forum, but there is a different place for that discussion. At least title the thread something that gives warning that the material inside is religous or is no way affiliated with the Crossfire, not everyone here is Christian and wants to read that stuff.

This is why Dr. Timothy Johnson who wrote "Finding God in the Questions" hesitates to admit he's a Christian because he doesn't want to be associated with this kind of bible thumping fundamentalist trash. John Westley Spong, a retired bishop in the Episcopal church says that if Christianity continues with this kind of fantasy stuff, it will eventually be a dead religion.

Wow!! So I guess you'll be missing church this Sunday. He asked for an opinion, and you certainly gave one. So I your opinion would be a NO??

This forum is for ANY TOPIC and quite honestly this one is very appropriate and worth while.
Religion, whether you believe it is man made, from God, evil or not is an important subject. If you don't want to discuss it here, go elsewhere.
All that said, I think if you do it right, the concept would be a good one. Jesus placed his parables in contemporay times. He talked about people, things, technologies of the period in his stories. Oil lamps, talents, unlevend bread? Even the Cruxifiction, death on a cross? Who does that today. How does a child relate to that today?
The judicious use of powers? Both had abilities to do superhuman things. How did they use those powers? Unselfishly. How does a youngster relate to that?
Superman, the one they see on TV or in current comic books, that one they know. He is a hero for what reasons? Why is Christ a hero? Compare.
There is a value to goodness, to sharing, to good works, to sacrifice. Help youngsters identify it.
Not blasphemous at all.
Good luck with it.

The thread was started in the off topic> general section of this forum. I was looking for opinions from this age group. Considering there is an off topic> other cars section one would think that anything could be posted in the general section.
You use what you can in pop culture to draw people in, stir up excitement in the church, and spread the gospel message. I'm not saying Christ is Superman or Vice versa. Instead I'm describing a popular character that's actions are very Christ like, which is what we all should strive to be like.

Actually Superman doesn't kill people. Only the most Devilish of enemies have died by his hands. But this thread is officially going off in the wrong direction!!
I still think it's a prefectly good idea.
