Both Superman and Jesus saved people in fiction, but the difference is that Jesus went on to inspire a religion that caused countless horrors around the world. Please keep religion to yourself, we get it shoved down our throats enough already that mine is sore.

The number one goal of Christiandom is the desire to share. I am constantly amazed by the efforts of people to find some evil reason to justify their rejection of this humble concept.

No one is forced to Christianity. By it's very fundimental, most basic virtue, it cannot force anything upon you. You have to chose.
Chose to ignore.
Chose not to believe
Chose to go away...

No problem. Bye

Amen! IMO

But, settle down folks!

That's what makes this forum great! It doesn't matter what we want to "talk" about! Thirteendog placed this question in the general forum where it states:
This section is for anything that is not related to the Crossfire or other cars. It can be about sports, movies etc..
He is as free to ask questions related to his beliefs to fellow members as is anyone else asking questions about their computer or "why should I get married", etc. just as I would feel free to talk about how religion does the human race no good. If you feel like not reading the thread, so be it! And, if you don't want to wade through a bunch of threads then ignore the ones that are in the General section!
We have members here from every walk of life & from darn near every profession you can think of; engineers, chemists, small businessmen, welders, aircraft maintenance, the list is endless. What a resource this can be! Thirteen asked a legit question of his fellow Christians, he's attempting to use resources available to him with a group of people he feels comfortable with. What's wrong with that?

This has got to be the most bizarre thread I have ever read on this forum.

A navy friend of mine told me how the Jehovahs Witnesses were constantly knocking at his door when he lived in Florida. He finally discouraged them by answering the door with his shotgun at his side.

An often used quote. But just to clarify, Religon is not the root.
Hate is the root of evil. Religon is an often used excuse.

Like skin color or race it makes it easy to identify the poor souls chosen as the enemy du' Joir. For thousands of years despots have used this tactic. They have repeatedly convinced those too lazy or cowardly to stand up for righteous truth, to kill their neighbors.

This thread was to ask the question of using a contemporary hero, who stood for truth and justice, and the American way to help young people relate to Jesus. Isn't it interesting that it quickly became an attack on Christianity and religon?

Wouldn't have happened 50 years ago.

Shame.

Side note: We don't go door to door unless we are selling something, and when we do that we just include a flyer that describes our church. Instead we try to bring people in with events and special studies. That way we don't get doors slammed in our face instead we get people who are (in one way or another) looking for something. It's not a bait and switch tactic, you should know what we're about when you walk into the church.

Thanks for the responses.

The reality is that as you go door to door under the guise of "selling something" you are really selling your church and religion. Many people, myself included, find this underhanded and do not appreciate it.

If I want to go to your church then I will do so. There is no reason whatsoever to come to me. It's the same with charity - I'll give to charity on my own terms, but don't call me requesting a donation (I roundly swore at the last couple of callers from the March of Dimes and threatened to file a police report against them if they called me one more time. Harsh but I can only request that my number be deleted from their calling list so many times).

I'm trying not to come across as beating up on you and hope you don't take this as such. It appears your church has been good to you and for you and that you won't be a dreg on society. But to me religion is a private and personal matter that does not involve meetings or leaders or frameworks to organize and worship by. My involvement, if any, in religion is decided by me and only by me and I simply do not want or seek any outside influence.

I'm sorry that this post has taken such a negative tone but I'm slowly getting irritated over my phone constantly ringing a couple of times then the caller hanging up. I do believe it's time to update my number in the Do Not Call registry.
