Default HELP problem with forum.

I'm not good with computers and need advise. Today I logged into the forum under my username and get a Internet explorer error message whenever I try to read a post. If I log in as a guest I have no problem reading post. I've tried the usual tricks of clearing cookies, deleting files ect. but have had no success with fixing this. I have no issues at any other sites. Could someone with computer knowledge suggest anything for me to try.

I can't be much help cause I'm having much the same problem with the CICCI forum. Can't figure it out either.
So far lass than one in ten attempts to log on is successful, despite clearing cookies and shutting down all of my spyware.

It is one reason I don't post there much.

Are you having trouble there on CICCI or here on the CrossfireForum.Org?

I have mine set to where I never have to login on either site. As long as I don't delete the cookies, I'm good to go everytime.

I can log in under my username and view new post but when I try and open the thread that is when I get the internet explorer message. I have down loaded foxfire and that is what I'm using to post this. Any advise will be welcome.

Give this a shot.

In Internet Explorer go to TOOLS
then to INTERNET OPTIONS
click on the ADVANCED tab
at the bottom click on Reset Internet Explorer settings RESET button.

Reboot.
Any luck?

I wasn't kidding about this being a fix. I had that problem all the time with Internet Explorer, and not just on this site. It develops trouble maintaining state (keeping you logged in) on certain sites from time to time.

If you are determined to stick with IE though, that reset is a good suggestion. Also, try disabling any toolbars or plugins you may have installed.

I only have a reset defaults button. I did that but did not fix the problem. Any other suggestions. Also when I use firefox I have no spell check option and trust me I need that option.

Werd! I dropped IE SOON after FireFox came out. I would encourage everyone to make the switch, I have it on my iMac and my wifes PC.

XfireFrank,

My name is Sanjay......no, wait, Steve; yeah Steve, that's right!

First, how about a few basics:
Just what version of Internet Explorer are you using? When in doubt, go to "Help" & then "About Internet Explorer".

Just what kinda error message pops up? What does it say?
What has changed on your computer? Added anything lately? Downloaded anything different?
Can you be reasonably sure you haven't contracted any viruses, trojans, malware, spyware, etc., etc.
Finally, Google can be a great resource for these kinds of issues especially when you have an error message and/or error code to search for!

There is an add-on for Firefox that has spell check. Believe me, without it my posts would be absolutely riddled with spelling errors.

I got it fixed!!! This is how I ended up fixing it, I downloaded internet explorer 7 ( I had 6) then I went in and hit the reset button and all is good. Also for whatever reason everything loads super fast now.

Internet Explorer 7 has been out for quite awhile.
I'm surprised you were not riddled with automatic messages to upgrade a long time ago.
It's like a whole new PC now isn't it.
By the way Frank I'm surprised you didn't call me first...

I never install upgrades they tend to make other things act up. Sorry Gary you I was going to call you next. Ann (Raap's) help me install firefox and the spellcheck. I got up the next morning and googled the problem and it advised to install the upgrade and then do the reset.

Frank, upgrades are one thing but ALWAYS, ALWAYS install the Microsoft updates that come out every month!
Set your Automatic Updates "download updates but let me......". Sometime around the second Tuesday of the month you'll see the little yellow shield thing pop up in your system tray. Apply them.
