Larry, its HERO's like this (quiet, don't like discussing things they saw/did) who many miss until someone mentions it in an obit or note on a major news channel. In my opinion the news should be good stuff and not the bad stuff that seems to make everyone experience a little schadenfreude. I don't think the news will ever change though... In my college english many years ago, I did a 15 minute presentation on the Doolittle Raid of Tokyo, cannot tell you all the kids (they were fresh out of high school I was the OLD guy there) that came up to me after the class was over to inquire more, they shocked me with their curiosity, truely enlightening, their (and my) reaction left me with quite an impression. It left me with a feeling the youth of today (actually early 90's, ooops I dated myself) is on track and the news is just full of the bad ones mostly. Also, that what they teach in schools just sometimes isn't on mark...

I served under both of these fine Americans. Gen S (name is hard to spell) is a huge figure in the history of our military from Vietnam to Desert Shield/Storm to post Shield/Storm. He is quite small in stature but a huge teddy bear in reality. I was stunned by how short he actually is. I also met Prez Bush 1 at a homecoming from Shield/Storm. He brought his brand new AF 1 (the 747) to Sumter SC to meet with the troops and family. He too was shorter than I expected. A great example of BIG THINGS come in SMALL PACKAGES!

A little history (hope I'm not boring you), Gen S was a young Lt in Vietnam, seeing his troops all around him being fragged by friendly fire, he made it a point of his command of the US response of Shield/Storm to not have FF incidents. His record of prosecution of those who caused casualties due to variances to procedures is a testament to the success of limiting FF statistics.

General, I Salute You!

Sad day in baseball. Cardinals Hall of Fame Stan Musial dies at 92 tonight 19 Jan 2013. Great player and great fan of the game. He will be missed.

I met Stan Musial in the early 60's at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, while his Cardinals were playing the Pirates. Back then, anyone with a ticket could watch batting and fieding practice near the dougouts. He graciously signed a game ball I had and I still have that ball in my baseball collection. He was born in a Pittsburgh suburb of Donora, Pennsylvania, an old steel town on the Monongahela River.
Great gentleman!
