I totally agree. My bad. I'm a very light smoker, and it's a pet peeve of mine to throw butts on the ground as well. I never smoke in my car, and didn't have anywhere to put it in the car (no ash tray). It is out of character for me, but I was guilty.

He was no where in site. He must have been behind me.

 

Well, that's the way it works. You can be good for years, step over the line once and of course, the law is right there for you.
The thousands of times you saw it done by others, with no consequences, just makes it hurt worse.

When I was a smoker, I spent hours perfecting that "I'm really cool" flick of the butt. Never had a thought about the consequenses to those around me. Now, I'm the old fart yell'in at the teenagers doing it to my lawn.

I just smoke cigars. Cigarettes never did much for me except give me cotton mouth... And cigars are an albatross to try to handle while driving, shifting, etc. It's a bit hard to nurse the perfect burn and keep the ash under control... thus preventing me from littering.

Although a cigar out the window is like an apple-core... everything is made by momma-nature, and easily rots away in a few days.

Could that be a point of contention for a ticket? LOL

Hahahaha never touched THAT stuff... But I used to be a fat kid so I had 24-hour munchies anyways.

 

Cigarette buts are made of paper and cellulose from wood. The tobacco on the other hand has all sorts of stuff in it. So I guess if you smoke all of it, they really don't have much to ***** about. It's like sawdust or leaves... Came from trees

I agree with those that get peeved at the butt throwers. It never bothered me until I was in the Army. As a fine upstanding young private, one of my duties was to "police" the area around the barracks. That includes picking up cigarette butts.

You have NO IDEA how many cigs a barracks full of soldiers can smoke in one day. It's IN-frigging-CREDIBLE!

 

Whenever I see a cig butt thrown in car ahead of me I cringe.......I always think of this scenario. Cig hits the ground and flickers while im riding over the flicker i have a gas leak that hits the flicker....next thing I see is a fire trail heading straight for me. HOLY !@#$ Bailout!!!!

Mattress Lodged Under Moving SUV Catches Fire
WOODBURY, Minn. (AP) ―

Kathleen Rich, visiting her daughter in Richfield Sunday, says she didn't see the mattress dropped on Interstate 494 until it was too late to avoid it.

Two women escaped unharmed after a mattress, stuck under their SUV, ignited and caused the vehicle to burst into flames on an interstate in the Twin Cities area.

Rich tells The Associated Press she hit the mattress, but thought she had left it behind until other drivers on the interstate frantically motioned for her to pull over. Rich says she stopped her SUV on an exit ramp and when she and friend Marcia Rogers opened their doors, flames shot up from under the vehicle.

Rich and Rogers took shelter in the car of a couple who came to their aid and watched as the SUV burst into flames. The Greenfield, Wis., woman says she's glad to be alive.

Here in Tennessee if you stick your butt out the window they just think it's one of their Kin folk celebrating

 

I did have a cigarette come into my cabin air intake on my 75 Starfire. It started the plastic/paper whatever tubing on fire. The only reason I did not lose the car to a fire was that I was, at the time, a fireman and always carried an extinquisher next to my turnout gear, boots and master key.

That day I had a Halon 30 Lb in the back so nothing was seriously damaged. By the fire or the extinghishing agent.

The guy who tossed it out of his yellow Porshe Boxer on I-55 at Cicero Drive, back in June 1974, during rush hour, is still at large.


For the record, most car fires start as a lost cigarette.
For the record, most car fires result in a total loss.

OMG......being a fireman and keeping extinguisher was a lifesaver..literally.

 

Saved my favorite car, at least my favorite before the XFire.
Truth is we should all carry one. But, if it isn't mounted correctly it could present as much of a hazard as a fire.
