As far as I know, that stuff has been in development for a long while now. They are finally getting the grenade launcher version to work.

I think it will be a while before anyone is actually carrying them around.

On another note, as a self proclaimed gun nut, I don't like it. I don't want anything electronic in my guns. If one of mine right now malfunctioned, or something broke, I would have no problem knowing what went wrong and what part needs fixing or replacing, and I could do it myself in just a couple of minutes. But something like that, if I pull the trigger and it doesn't go off, I would have no idea where to even begin to look. I like things to be mechanical, electronic stuff is not for me.

I do like the idea that it can shoot 3 times before it recoils. That would be fun.

That General Downing on the video is funny, you can tell he's an officer. When he was talking about jams, and firing pins breaking, he also said when the bolt goes off the slide... How in the hell does that happen?? At first I was thinking about bolt action rifles, yeah you can take the bolt out, but then I remembered the slide part... That's an auto loader. WTF pal??

I gotta say I'm not a fan of this either..> We're gonna need scan tools for our guns just like cars...

Coming from currently being in the military as all of this tech is coming out I'd have to say I have mixed feelings about it. Would I want this as a one and only weapon technology myself and my squad were carrying? Heck no, just in case something broke. But think about the applications of this technology in the hands of a single support gunner trained on how to use it, and fix it if it broke. Example: Computers aren't mechanical at all, yet I can fix one very quickly if I know whats going on. If an electronic gun jams, and a trained tech can look at it. there you go. And that same trained tech can also lay down a wall of suppressive fire as if he was a one man army. Also this technology could be well employed as an area denial type of defensive emplacement, once again with trained ops ready to repair at a moments notice. I didn't watch the video so I don't know if this was addressed in there already or not, but I have known of metal storm for a while now.

Even old generals, I would hope, wouldn't be so gullible as many of our politicians and make this the only available weapon in the battle field. It certainly should be used in combination with other traditional weapons. Regardless, I'm impressed as hell with what it is able to accomplish
