Default Is there a gun collector in the house?

I was recently given a 1908 Colt Police Positive .38 Special revolver in the original box, and I am trying to get an idea of its value.

All of the blueing is intact as are the grips.

I cannot find a date of manufacture or serial number anywhere, but the barrel does list some patent dates, the most recent being July 4, 1905.
The dark brown cardboard box does have the number 247339 written on it in pencil. If that is the serial number, the date of manufacture would be 1922.

Thanks in advance.

Have you removed the grips to see if a serial number is stamped under them?

The barrel is stamped 38 Special and not 38 S&W?

unfortunetly, there are still a lot of these old guns floating around out there. I had a similar model, I sold for $150....a few years back...that was a popular police issue of it's day....
