The Meaning of Memorial Day - Hold it Dear
No picture, but thanks for trying to remind folks that it is a day of remembrance. Not a day of cookouts and beer.
Salute to all service members. Past, present and future.
Vigilance by few, for all.
And if you happen to attend a Memorial day parade, please STAND UP when the United States flag is in view. It sets a good example for the kids.

You forgot to tell them to put their right hands over their heart when the flag passes...
But more importantly, when pols start talking about cutting vets' benefits or housing/morale services for current servicepeople to balance the budget ... the Constitution allows you to talk back
at least the "libtard" part...

Larry-thanks. You are correct. Most veterans wouldn't think twice in their response.

At some point everything is politics, Max & Kane.
As a vet I cringe every May & November with all the speechifying, then catch another faceful of the same old Newsy | Simpson: Disabled Veterans 'Not Helping' Economy | Multisource Video News Analysis
Vets (and their widows) need jobs, services & a sympathetic ear. Save Pomp and Circumstance for high school commencements & the Queen of England.
Job discrimination against returning vets (who often still have Reserve reqiurements) is still high. That is, when there are any on offer.
My point is if you want to honor a vet, do something more meaningful than salute the flag. That's my problem. And America's, too

Do you need a hug? 20-odd years is a long time.
Yeah, Simpson is a dink. Given. All pols are. All.
What is your point? I'd at least like to see $100,000 SGLI to replace that insulting $10,000 that is offered now. Will we see it? No. If you are so against Memorial Day, stay in bed.
I'll be cooking brats and drinking beer.

I don't salute but do stand at attention. I have also been known to slap hats off of heads during the playing of the national anthem. Ya got to train em.

A better day to celebrate Memorial Day.
Bob Gates recently noted that the defense of the USA rests on a narrower segment of our populace than ever before.
So instead of making like Catholic mass at some Memorial Day cluster, you can do something useful for servicemen and their families, instead.
Here are a few suggestions:
If there are living former military and families in your area and you can deal with them...
-Help find job leads for them.
-(Only if you can write) Help them fine-tune their resumes.
-Listen to them when they want to talk things out.
(Not all wounds or disabilities are visible)
If you can't deal with the living...
Find a cemetery in your area and take a weed whacker to it. Some of the men and women laying about may have served.
If you just have to talk back to the powers that be...
Just make it plain that you don't want them to welch on the care of former servicemen...
Not out of some altruistic notion. But out of fear the Gov't might not be able to get more people to serve when we need them most.
Now tell me what you don't understand about that.
Still confused? Then Aricept is a drug you should consider.
It won't fix everything, but it will slow down your brain rot.
Also lay off the sauce. Even the young Tea sippers on this board can smell you a kilometer off

An addition to my "help vets and their widows" thread...
If you see a young soldier or family in an airport terminal, shake his/her hand with a prepaid Visa card. Airports are expensive places these days

I was in boot camp when the USS Pueblo was seized. I wish things could get worked out and the former crew members could get the 65 Million dollars they have been awarded (through a lawsuit) from frozen North Korean assets here in the US. It would be a very small measure of justice.
