Default After 3 weeks its painted

OK guys, I'm going to see how to post pictures on here, I'm not a idiot when it comes to websites and stuff but I do find this site a little complicated on understanding how everything works..IE...making and managing your photo ablums and stuff... I probably need to resize my pics but anyway here goes... Let me know what you all think of the paint job... I think its great, even painted the engine cover...

Wrong color, but I'm partial to RED

Seriously, it looks very nice.

To the best of my knowledge it is... The color chart my friends body shop only shows a Sapphire Silver Metallic for 2004 Chryslers... its my understanding that the color is called Sapphire Silver Blue metallic...as the sliver around the window... there is no code so we chose this color.. it had 8 coats of paint, 4 coats of clear and was color sanded with 1500, 2000 and 2500 grit paper.. its TOTALLY slick... I"m very pleased....

Why on Earth would they put 8 coats of base? There are no benefits to doing that on a base/clear system.

I think the painter was just pullilng my leg...I actually think he went with about 4 coats of base and 3 coats of clear... I was there everyday seeing the work done, except the day he did the paint... I know he used 2 qts of base...the guy has painted 4 cars for me in the past and believe me if you see how slick this paint is.. I'd compare it to anyones...I think the job turned out outstanding

I'm sure he was as the norm(for a good paint system) is 2 coats base 2 coats clear............but if you want it slick then 3/4 coats of clear so you will be left with 2 when done wet sanding and buffing.

Depending on the prep job, prior paint condition and other factors, 3 sometimes 4 coars of base would be the norm. The paint is 3 stage ie. metallic vs plain color and can take a few coats to get laid out right. The final coat is to even out the metallic to get the flop (side view etc) correct. 4 coats of clear makes sense if he planned on wet sanding/buffing etc.

Sounds to me he did an excellent job and went way above the standard for a reshoot. It looks good from the pics. He treated you right

Yeah he definitely did me right...I have some experience with body and paint work also, but no way would I attempt to do mine the way I wanted it done..They spent a lot of time preping it, Carfax showed it was in a previous accident and he showed everything that was done previously... the hood and passenger door had to be stripped... primer would not even lay on the door, not sure what they used previously but the primer wrinkled up like a 90 year old, ...I will be taking it to a local cruise in tonight and see what comments I get... I can't see a flaw anywhere and with the engine cover painted adds a lot to detail with the hood open... Hope to show it off this year if I am able to attend the Dragon tail run.

3 or 4 coats of paint and 2 quarts of paint?????????? That is amazing that that is soooo thin 3 -4 coats??? I have done many and that is called dusting at best, the car is not that small.

Wet sanding it of course the trick to get out the waves in the final finish. Woody

Looks like plenty of people like to bash other people's work... I don't know exactly how much paint was used or how man exact coats? I'm not sure if they are thin or heavy coats... This body shop does 1st class work and has painted many show cars... I am sure that every body man out there does work different and all I can say is that I wouldl compare my paint job with anone's on here... Heck... he probably even painted it without using any masking tape..... now that would be a pretty good paint man wouldn't it...LOL.....Anyway guys appreciate the comments....

Yes the paint job was done locally here in Marion, NC....

I think doc has it right. I don't think anyone was bashing the work, just trying to make sure the message was right and giving advice. As I'd like to have mine cleaned up from all the rocks chips, I appreciate the thread and advice given.

See you at the Dragon in the fall
