Am I missing something or are public profiles gone?

I had to look twice at your post title, piblic? at first I thought it said pubic. I thought the new owners were spicing it up a bit too much.

The spell checker in Mozilla Firefox has saved me, over and over, from looking like I can't spell! Best part, it's fully automatic, it underlines anything it does not like and you can right click the word and it gives you suggestions.

I've even added words to it's vocabulary, like EGU, TCM and Pizzaguy so it won'd underline THEM and throw me off!

I guess you added `won'd' to the vocabulary?
Just asking.
I'd use won't myself and you do not have to add that word.
