It occurred to me as I was reading this that we Americans speak American. It is loosely based on English but with the untidy bits cleaned up. It would seem that a simple solution would be to have the English speaking peoples switch to speaking American. This really wouldn't affect that many folks. Just our neighbors to the north, whom we have been trying to convert for years, and the other few odd sparsely peopled countries.

you will no longer have boots, you will have trunks ( boots go on your feet )
you will no longer 'sort it out', you will fix it like the rest of us do.
you will no longer have tyres or colours, you will have tires and colors.
AND you will burn gas, not petrol, although the price won't change ......

) the US version of English dominates, and at 300 + million it is the biggest English speaking country, it isn't. India has English as an official language and it numbers some 3.1 billion souls. Add up all the English speaking peoples and you are a small minority, I agree not all speak with an UK accent, but neither is it an American one either.I fear we would all be better of learning Chinese though.
