GT500 Dyno Disaster
Full Story: Shelby GT500 Destroys a Dyno
As it turns out, a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is just too powerful for an ordinary dyno to handle.
This is not something one is accustomed to seeing, but despite the destruction and fire, we’re sure glad someone was on hand to film this. It all went down at the Expo Performance 24 in Sherbrooke, Quebec. In the French Canadian city is where this Mustang Shelby GT500 took its spot on the dynamometer. As the driver got the car all revved up and the rear tires spinning, a spectacle of fire and mayhem suddenly erupted. The dyno blew up and from the looks of it, there’s a fair amount of damage done to the car as well.
No explanation was given as to what destabilized the dyno, but what's clear is that this type of thing doesn't happen often.

Not being a gear head, and never being on a dyno (but have seen several videos of it being done), I have always wondered if something like this (or worse) could happen. Good to see the straps held!
