You need to know about this road
I discovered this INCREDIBLE road in NC quite by accident and you need to know about it. I planned a scenic route to visit my grandfather along a beautiful and quite fun section of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We saw LOTS of awesome views, corners, cars, and bikes on the parkway. I chose "Buck Creek Rd" to take us down from the mountaintops to civilization. LITTLE DID I KNOW Buck Creek Rd has another name: "THE DEVIL'S WHIP". That is exactly what it is!! It is the most challenging road I have ever drove!!! 20-35 mph is pushing it. The bikers say "not for the novice rider" and they are not kidding. There were two motorcycle wrecks the day after we were there. Nonstop tight corners for miles.
I wish I could say I whipped the Devil, but he got me. The actual corner "Devil's Whip Corner" is a nasty, blind, downhill, decreasing-radius "where the hell did the banking go?" corner. I pushed wide into the other lane a few feet and due to having the wife in the car I had to slow it down a tad thereafter. I still enjoyed every inch of it though. I WILL make it back to The Devil's Whip to prove myself.
The website says to travel UP The Devil's Whip your first time and I fully agree. The blind corners can definitely bite you coming down the mountain.
There were photographers and I will order a picture.

Thanks for posting this info boostmonky. Always up for a fun NC road. I have passed with in 8.5 miles many time on my way to go skiing in the NC high country. Looks like it is about 1 1/2 hours or so from my house in Spartanburg.
A definite goal during the Fall Dragon event of this year.
Head to marion NC and goup. then either return or please the wife by going home via the Blue ridge Parkway
Thanks!

Marion NC is where I was headed. I MUST go on the dragon event this year, especially if it means I get to go to Marion and the Devil's Whip again. 32kraz Steve bugged me to go last year, but I had too many excuses. When are you guys going?
Yes it is one of my favorites – we did it last fall after the 2012 Fall Dragoon GTG.
According to locals who know my buddy beat the speed record then – it is a great drive and with Mt Mitchell (6,684 ft) as the backdrop - the highest peak east of the Mississippi River. We did several runs up and down and were captured with over 100 pictures that day:
SRT-6’s at Devil’s Whip
next we are going to
Zoom & Vroom Track Event NCCAR Sat June 8, 2013, Roanoke Rapids NC

Post in my thread if you wish to be added to the list in post #2
Also thanks for the tip on the Devils Whip
