Flight 370?
If the transponder is turned off, does a plane still leave an electronic sig?
We now know that the pilot DID have a flight simulator in his home. And, they say the plane went through a lot of unusual maneuvers just before it went missing (something the pilot practiced for?). Now they say the plane flew for six hours after the transponder was turned off.
And on tonight's news they concluded that the plane is in the ocean 6 hours from where it was last tracked. How do they know that? Why would a pilot hijack a plane only to fly if for six hours and put it in the ocean? That just doesn't make sense.

According to reports out today, the plane flew at least five hours maybe 7 I/2. At 500MPH that's a possible 3500 miles from it's last documented position.
And now Malaysian comes forward with radar data suggesting radical altitude changes. And a flight path directed west toward India territory.
this plane will be found. Hopefully the passengers are OK but most likely they were killed, or rendered unconscious, by asphyxiation during the altitude swings.
Well, it kinda looks like the Captain (or first officer) may have taken the plane down or hijacked it.
But the Captain had a Youtube page - most boring Youtube page ever - was he a man obsessed? Maybe. With appliance repair!
No manifestos have been found by this guy, but his instructions on A/C repair, as well as modifying A/C units for "better efficiency" and ice maker repair have been found.

That makes a lot of sense. Flying it 6 hours only to make a suicide ditch didn't. Nor does a lot of the other speculations the media is spewing. But it does help their ratings.
I actually saw this circulating around on Facebook
I don't recall any news media reporting this theory and if they have not I wonder why ??
It certainly makes more sense than all the other theories reported so far

Maybe not, Gary. A very young guy (I think he's 20) on TheSpaceport read that and said:
So no further point in speculating until there is evidence, but the Captain of this airliner was a hero? A highjacking would have weaved around until they figured out where to go????? Wouldn't you have a plan where to go if you hijacked a plane? I'm all game for the "no point in further speculating", but you can't say that and then in the same breath declare the captain a hero. If this hero pilot saw smoke and turned the plane to emergency land, why didn't he contact anyone?? Wouldn't one of the first things you or your co-pilot do would be to contact control and let them know you have a major malfunction?
Not a perfect argument, but he does have a point or two.
In any event, I get the idea this will be a mystery for the long-term.

Well as I heard a retired pilot and former Air Force pilot say on a radio talk show today, in an emergency situation of this magnitude, contacting ground control is low priority for the pilot and co-pilot. #1 is to control the airplane to safety. His speculation was very similar to Chris Goodfellow's. He also speculated no remains will ever be found. I have my doubts about that.

If they don't find the plane - there are gonna be riots in Malaysia and China.
I guess it would be better if there wasn't so much conflicting and confusing information coming out of the Airline. I did hear to day that we have people going over to try to investigate the Captian's simulator in his home. Thing is, I can't see where a simulator is all that unusual. Pilots are airplane nuts - like we here are car nuts - why is it so surprising that the guy had some simulation software in his home?

Everything has to be studied for any clue.
Many who are involved open their mouths when a mike is shoved in their face, then say not mention their name.

These are the same people who video tragedies rather than help someone.
I agree with 180. Any and all scenarios need to be studied. Any and all clues should be gathered.
When a truthful clue negates a proposed scenario, we stop wasting time and resources chasing it.
At the moment, the investigators know virtually nada.

Not sure if your post is tongue-in-cheek or supposedly true, but I wouldn't think that a true company ad would promote a Boeing 777 and show a different jet. A 777 only has 2 engines (one on each wing) and the jet pictured looks more like an Airbus (A380?), not a Boeing.

I worked for MD in the early 70s and some DC10s maybe MD11s were fitted with extra hard points on one wing to mount and transport a spare engine. We always wondered what passengers might think if they were not informed why there was an odd engine on one wing.
Time flies and the other month the last DC10 in passenger service flew its last scheduled trip.
