Welcome! This is great news! I didn't know the Miata side of John. I'm so glad to know you have John's roadster.
John and Eileen always enjoyed driving their Xfire to Ft. Worth for the annual Speedway Children's Charity's Laps for Charity event at Texas Motor Speedway. It has become a tradition for us Crossfire people to meet at the nearby Motel 6 that Saturday for an afternoon meet 'n greet, go to mid-afternoon lunch at nearby Babe's Chicken Dinner House and then go to TMS for a Crossfire group drive around the track. The cost to drive around the track goes to the children's charity. That evening, we have a social party at Motel 6's pool.
This years TMS event will be September 24th. I will start a thread soon with details and for people to sign up. We hope you will join us!!!
Here's a couple photos of John at the last TMS John attended where the Crossfire Club (CICCI) presented him with a "thank you".

After he passed away, my husband offered to help his wife Eileen sell his Miata. Well, to make a long story short, tomorrow, I am going to be the new and proud owner of John's Crossfire. To those who are unfamiliar, it is Alabaster with black and white interior. GORGEOUS!! I also have a 2008 Miata, Grand Touring, Power Retractable Hardtop and the color is True Red. I located it in Houston with only 3,184 miles a year ago, and snapped it up. Needless to say, I am in love with both cars.
Wish we would have known John longer. He was so well liked by you all, but I will be keeping his memory alive every time I'm driving that beautiful car.
Karen,
Great news that you have purchased Johns Crossfire. I drove Johns beloved Crossfire to his final resting place and I know he would be thrilled that an enthusiast has purchased his car. I visit Kerrville regularly from Houston to visit Eileen. I hope we can meet up next time I come. I have the instructions for the scrolling rear license plate I will pass on the you. Controller is in the center console. I am really looing forward to meeting you both. Please leave your contact phone number with Eileen. I hope you can join us at the Dallas TMS this year, it is a great way to meet fellow owners, and a great charity, and running the track is awesome. Just a note: I saw an awesome yellow Crossfire at Billy Genes Restaurant when we were there last week, with the same interior as yours. Owner ???? Seen this on a few other visits.

Kerrville, Texas
Hopefully, we will meet soon, Karen. Our friend is gone, but at least his car remains with the group, which kinda makes it feel like he's still here.
My husband has seen 4 Crossfires in Kerrville recently: a yellow; blue; black and mine. Maybe they'll wave when I'm driving mine! It'll be nice to meet up with them. We took my car to the Cruise Night at Culver's here on Friday night and it generated some comments! It's not a huge turnout, but it's the best Kv has to offer until the V.A. has theirs on Memorial Day. I should take mine there! I'm so proud of it, and know I'm gonna enjoy this rare beauty!
Thanks for the welcome and the photos of John. I'm glad I have John's roadster, too, and, I will take good care of it. Our son saw it last night for the first time, and when he took it for a ride, he, too, was 'hooked'!! We are in awe as to the beauty of the design and the fun of driving it, plus, the fact that it belonged to John and we know he took excellent care of it. AND, the mufflers he installed sound AWESOME!! Now, my husband wants one!!!
After owning it for a couple of hours, I received my first compliment!! I have a feeling this is only the beginning!! Guess you can't tell how happy I am???
John's family made the following request following the death of John Penz....
Those who desire may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society
In memory of our CICCI charter member FTroopChief (John Penz) CICCI has donated $100 to the American Cancer Society as his family requested
The Master Chief deserves no less. Thanks Gary and thanks to CICCI for honoring a great veteran and member. I met John in St Louis and was his friend from that day on. Great man. He flys with angels now. It is also nice hear his XF lives on among us.
