Default Pizza's New Job

Something cool has happened. I"ve been with Kenwood (yes, THAT Kenwood), now JVCKenwood, for almost five years. This after 29 years in Land Mobile Radio. THe five years have been SUCH a learning experience!

But recently, I had a chance to work with our R&D department on my current project. It kinda make me think a bit. Well, I did it, I applied and waited and waited. At least one other candidate (from outside the company) was interviewed as well (the position has been open for a LONG time).

On Thursday, I got the call - in a week, I move from Systems as Systems Technician (doing deployment of huge digital trunked systems) to R&D as Field Applications Engineer (supporting a wide range of our products and systems, but mostly the current and next generation of our digital trunked systems).

I will be working with a team of Japanese and American engineers on a variety of issues, product developments, and dealer/customer problems as well as producing training and technical documentation for both our training department, in-house technicians and end users. (As well as a lot of other stuff, accoring to my new boss.)

For the first time ever, my boss is (16 years) younger than I am - and is a TREMENDOUS person and engineer. Kenwood attracts some very good people and both my current boss and my new boss are examples of this.

Words cannot express how excited I am.

Great opportunity & I'm sure you'll be a great asset to the group because of your prior experience & knowledge. Go get 'em!.

Any move to Texas is probably delayed by a few years now.

This will be quite the challenge, but I honestly think it's "the" job I've waited all these years for. I was offered a similar position when I was 30 by Motorola. But a divorce and two pre-teen boys at home meant that I turned it down - it was a great opportunity but the timing was off. AND, as I look back on life with my sons, I know I made the right decision.

But now, well, now is MY time.
