I do not have a Carfax subscription. Recently several forum members posted about using this site for $4.99 Carfax searches:

I tried it, and so did others, and it worked fine.

I did a private owner search on CarFax and got six pages of very useful material. $63. CDN

I did a private owner search on VinCheckUp and got nothing. $13. CDN Has anyone else used VinCheckUp????????????????????

For me, CarFax is the only way to go. The database they use has more in it than any other - but keep in mind that even CarFax may not know the full story. It's just that CarFax is consistently the most informative. There is a reason they get more for their service.

When I was looking for a car, five years ago, I got a deal where I could do (I forget how many) several checks on multiple VINs for $50. I remember I only used one of them, I did at least one more check for someone on here - then the subscription expired. I didn't think I'd buy the first car to come along, but I sure did!
