Seems a lot of "newly" purchased cars are doing this. Are there any long term owners experiencing the headliner problem?
I think all coupe headliners are failing. I have a garaged '05 SRT with 5400 miles and the healiner is coming loose in the upper corners of the windshield/sun visor area. There is other threads about this same problem.

It also be the odd design of the headliner.
If you run your fingers across the edge of the headliner near the windshield, you'll notice that the edge of the headliner is actually not tucked into anything. No plastic, no metal, no studs, nothing.
Most cars hold up the edges of the headliners with reinforcing stud or trim piece, not the Crossfire.
The cloth material is foam backed. The foam is breaking down and releasing form the adhesive holding it to the headliner pan. You are correct with your material observations but I bought my crossfitre new and it has never been steam cleaned. This is premature failure of the headliner that all coupe owners ae going to deal with sooner or later.
I purchased my 04 Coupe a little over 2 years ago and last week my headliner just came down while it was in the parking lot at work. It started on the edges a year ago and I didn't pay much attention to it but apparently it will just fall all at once. I have been doing some research all morning and it is a widespread problem. The idea idea I had with mine is to take out the board and carbon fiber the whole thing myself. This way it could never happen again. My only concern is the issue people are having getting the board out. It seems you have to flex it to fit it out the door and if I CF the board it will loose all flexibility. I guess I will think about it some more.
Finally a headliner post, I was beginning to think I'm the only one with the headliner problem. I took the SRT to the dealership last week and after inspection they immediatly ordered a new headliner, said they will replace it under warranty. They checked on part availiblity and said there are only 15 in the US. If you need a replacement you better get it while you can.
My SRT only has 5500 miles on it. I'm also under warranty untill thru June '09. What bothers me is I keep the car in the garage and just take it out on weekends. This headliner failure is premature to say the least.
I think the problem is "HEAT" related more than anything else.
It seems to be happening more to cars from the South and the S. West.
Maybe we should start a thread for both the headliner falling, and the roadsters window coming loose with everybody posting where they live, build date, and if their cars sit ouside under the "Hot" sun a great deal of the time. Also, what color your car is. (Darker colored cars absorb more heat than lighter colors.)
This wouldn't let Chrysler off the hook, but it would show that Karmann just used a very poor "adhesive" that doesn't stand up to heat the way it should in both cases.

I just replaced the fabric on my headliner myself and it was easy, under $100 includeing proper paint for the pillars and the trunk plastic to get rid of the grey. now I got a black liner and orange plastics to match
