Default Inside of interior door handle

2005 coupe just purchased. Inside of both interior door handles flaking at middle seam...i have slit my finger twice opening the door. Should I grind it down? Or tape it over? or?

Thanks

Mine started to do that.. not as bad as yours.. Maybe take it to the dealer if it's under warranaty. What I did was put a strip of the soft side of velcro on the inside along the seam..

My '05 had the same condition when I bought it from the dealer. The wife sliced her finger quite badly when we had it home for a 'test drive' week.

The dealer replaced both door pulls under warranty before I took possession of the car. I believe that there might be a Bulletin out to dealers to fix this problem without a lot of whining. Product Liability stuff, ya' know.

What is your warranty situation, zoned? I'm sure that you can find a clever way to fix it yourself; file/grind them down a bit and cover with electrical tape or whatever. Or just keep band-aids in the console.

Let us know if OEM door pulls are hard to find already. I know Chrysler just bellied up last week, but I would guess that they stopped stamping out Crossfire body and trim parts a long time ago. There are a lot of new Crossfires sitting on the lots, probably still a bunch over-seas, but who knows when the service dealers reined in and stopped stocking the shelves with spare parts. This melt-down has been ongoing for some time.

Good luck.

If you have any type of factory warranty or extended warranty it is covered, mine did the same thing and the dealer replaced them both with no questions asked.

We ended up using a soft nail file and very gently filed the sharp edge. Also there is a member who sells OEM parts as he works in a Chrysler service department. I think the cost of new was $70ish range. If you find a good solution post it. So far ours has remained smooth and no cuts since. Be careful as the file was long enough that it could scratch the door panel above as your filing.

Very nice, both design and work. Wish I had these! I installed a custom dash kit which only provided a cover for the front but I purchased a roll of the same pattern and am going to make a matching piece for the back.

yeah just a bit of lube on the handbrake handle and some patience.
pull n twist the leather onto the handle to get the stitching straight.

it be better than new

What did you put on the handle to assist?

I have been searching but haven't seen this suggestion yet. There is a thick plastic tape usually used as a anti abrasion cover called helicopter tape. It's clear and easy to work with. I stuck it on the inside surface of both handles. I can feel it when I grab the handle but it's not sticky and is definitely better than touching sharp edges. You've probably seen it before on bicycles as a chain slap guard on the chainstay. It's not cheap usually but it can be repositioned easily if you want to straighten it in the initial application, so there isn't much waste.
