Itsky, very nice writeup.
I swapped mine out for a pair of 12 SMD white panels. When I did, I found that if I removed (pulled stright down on) the little diffusers inside, it revealed the lamps and I did not have to remove the whole fixture.
Just an observation.

I just ordered two of the blue domelight LEDS to match my radio and illuminated door sills.
I couldn't find these on the site, however. Which ones are these?
Quantity: 2
Product: Twist-Lock T10S-TW $1.19 (each)
Thanks,

I had 6 LED bulbs in each of my map lights and I just replaced them with 'cool' white, which is very similar in color to a 6K HID bulb - nice, clean light. I thought the blue looked good lighting up the silver accents, but think the white bulbs are much more classy looking. Unless it is something like Frank's roadster. I put blue bulbs in his maps and changed the license bulbs to cool white and it looks GREAT, but his blue lighting accents are everywhere, including lit sills and windscreen.....

If you can get the lights out just right, then you won't have to take the whole assembly out, but I have big fat fingers!

They were lost on top until I figured out how to remove the fixture.

Nothing like a simple install of map lights to make me feel totally idiotic. The first bulb and base went in fine, the second one wouldnt twist in correctly. I ended up just for the hell of it trying to use the stock bulb base w/ the LED and it worked; just slipped right in and everything is working fine. Was this a good idea? I dont really know what bad could happen, just wondering if I should have stuck w/the new twit-loc bases.
Thanks 'yall
