Default Cup holder, secured mounted now.

I was at Meijer last night and saw a cup holder similar to the one I had, but it seemed just a bit larger and much better quality. For $6.99 I thought I would try it.

So instead of just having the cupholder sit in the bag, moving around, I decided to mount it WITHOUT modifying the orignial car.

I removed the two original hooks and put them away for safe keeping.

I checked my spare bracket box and found some that looked like they would work.

I mounted the brackets using the existing mounting holes and screws. This can be changed back to OEM in a matter of minutes.

My next stop to the hardware store I plan to purchase some black finish screws to replaced the chrome ones. Actually these aren't noticable once the seat backs are in position.

Now it is all secure and can be changed back in minutes but I don't why I would.

James, that's a really novel use of a bit of unused space between the seats. I had some real concerns about reaching over your shoulder for your favorite refreshment, but I've got a small modification that will make this a surefire hit with the DIY Crossfire owners. It involves borrowing just the plastic tubing from the device my pal is wearing in the photo below. Viola! no more reaching. I'm thinking we could make a load moola with this combination of your cup holder and my tubing!

Great job!!
Do you remember where you might have gotten those brackets from? I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything remotely similar to them.

Actually the two brackets were made from one bracket from a left over aftermarket fog light kit I used on a car some time back.

I would think you could go to Lowes or HD and find some small mending brackets, drill, paint them black, with the same results.

Great job! Better than the slide in between the glass and rubber seal holder I'm using now.

I finally found something that would fit!
Wald #827F Fender Angle Bracket
They were around 0.95 per bracket on Amazon. No, they aren't black, but 20 seconds and a can of Krylon will change that.

Bob Hope can't say anything about it now!

Another thing you can do with the right brackets, are mount them so they will slip "inside" the cup holder. Fasten a clip-nut on the bracket, drill the hole in the proper location thru the cup holder, and all you will see is the screw head.

Great idea. I haven't had my car long but have already spilled a drink because of the cupholder

How is it holding up? Does it stick out much to where it might interfere with arm space?

Used it all the way down and back from the Dragon. No interference. It will stay put for now.

The one's you can buy from walmart works. it's what I have. I even cut off the bottom part of the cup holder. I couldn't find brackets either, luckily there is a metal shop next door to where I work and had them make brackets for me. Also the brackets are on the inside with clip-on nuts, only the screw head is visible.

Works great. I only put bottles in it. Never tried cups of any kind. Just kinda weird that I see the bottle in the rear view mirror, but I'm getting used to it now.

Thanks James

That is the same type of cupholder and mounting spot that I used in my car. Only I used a strip of heavy duty Velcro on the back for easy removal.

(For those of you that doubt the all-powerful Velcro, it will hold two 1 Liter bottles of Mountain Dew and my Cell phone, so I can't complain.)

Thumbs up Re: Cup holder, secured mounted now.

thanks james - I'm a rookie to this forum, I've had my 2005 crossfire for a month now - love the car, the handling, the style, almost everything about it, however.....she's got some quirks ...but with fellas like you and all your help I'll manage to continue loving this car - thanks again

If you decide to make the following mod, be sure to use only this name brand. As stated before, the Walmart/Advanced Auto may not work the same way becasue of dimensions.

I did the same thing a few years back, the only difference is that I used an "L" shaped piece of aluminum and mounted that to the same two coat hook screws, then mounted the plastic cup holder from the top using 4 black self taping Phillips screws.
