I bought a cupholder for the center console. On longer trips bottles of water go there. I also bought cupholders that slip between the seats and console. We only use Contigo cups so if they tip over, they do not leak on the floor. Once we are about 40 miles from home we are in the desert, so traveling with water is just common sense. The OEM cup holder was replaced with a storage bin before I bought the car. It's a good place to store a pair of iPhones.

I built my own dual cup holder. It costs under $15.00 and can hold 2 Gatorade sized bottles. It's also easy to put in the console storage bin and is easy to remove.
If you use a cup holder of any type, make sure you use a bottle or other sealable container. As stated before, these cars don't like liquids.
