CO HPR lapping day - last minute! Sunday 08/02
Hey CO folks!
So sorry I missed out on the festivities in Golden yesterday. I was finishing up with my annual meeting for the job and just couldn't work out the schedule.
However, we've decided, spur of the moment, to head out to High Plains Raceway today for the lapping day (half day starts at 1:00pm). Taking the Crossfire and the Porsche, if anyone sees this and would like to come along, please do.

Bring water and sunblock as it is BF Colorado and there is no shade. Also be VERY law-abiding on the country road in - always some revenue gatherers in the area.

Scratch that.
Due to a unforeseen issue occurring, we won't be making it to the track today.
Next weekend, on Saturday, we will make it for the 8am until noon run.
Hope some of you can join.

You guys missed out on a great time.
There were about 15 cars all morning long, including our two cars, and just lots and lots of open track. There was 1 Ferarri 430, 1 older Porsche 911 Targa, 1 newer Porsche 911 Carrera, 2 Porsche 944's, 3 Chevy Corvettes, 2 of which were Z06 cars, 1 Chevy Camaro, 1 Lotus Elise, 1 Mini Cooper S, 2 full on race cars, my Boxster, and Bat's Crossfire Roadster.
We ran two up in both cars a couple of times, and Bat was very pleased with the way her car performed, with the sole exception being that the stock brakes leave a lot to be desired when you are running on a road course track, at a quick pace. Brake fade was prominent.
The Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tires stick pretty darned good on the Crossfire, and are quite a huge difference in comparison to the stock Continental POS tires that came on it. The car did have a tendency to understeer in the really sharp, off camber hairpin and decreasing radius turn, and sometimes on the extremely fast uphill sweeper where being able to get hard on the power, and still have the car grip the road are the utmost of importance.
Perfect for the Chicane approaching the front straight where it was to be able to transition from side to side while under full power; great at the high speed right turn after the long straight, where you have to brake from 110 mph down to 75. The left hairpin right at the top of the fast right uphill turn was child's play once you got the car slowed down, and shifted down to second gear.
Can't wait to do it again!
Next time we are going to rig up a way to mount the camera to one of the cars in order to film the track. There wasn't any way to hold onto a camera and run at pace in either car without risking the camera going on its own way come the first set of turns.
