Default new guy from TX

Hello all,

I am new to the forum and do not yet have a crossfire but I'm working on it!
My wife has an awesome MB 2002 CL500 that although is immaculate, I think needs to be replaced before it starts to eat me out of house and home!

That being said, her expectations are high. I have taught her vehicle respect and admiration the past few years and I, apparently, have created a MONSTER!

I hope the Crossfire will handle well and be quick, if not fast, but I expect it to be both; I'm not jibbing or insulting anyone but coming from the V8 world there is a difference between quick and fast.

And, obviously, because it will be my wife's DD I need it to be safe and reliable.

I am a Reserve Navy engineer and prior 10 year active; I am also a Harley Factory trained tech and have owned my own Service/repair business so I am BIG on maintenance and preventative mojo.

I also want a car that I can "massage" a little as she wouldn't even let me touch her Benz as it seems I got pulled over a lot, and as there aren't too many options for the xfire there are enough to keep me busy and it is definitely a little easier to work on than her w215 or my B5.5 Passat wagon.

I hope to learn a lot here; I am not a troll but I will not post much as I find most things have been stated in other posts etc. I will be new to this forum but I am/have been a member of many from dodge magnum, titantalk, jeep grand wagoneer(the original one!) and numerous Harley sites etc.

I love the looks of the xfire and have since I first saw them in 05 coming back from overseas but I had ordered an 05 Magnum R/T and I LOVED that car.I am glad my wife is open to the crossfire and is almost as excited as I am; it's hard to leave heated/ventilated massage seats!

I am def a Mopar fan and my wife is a Benz fan so we get the best of Both worlds! Can't lose, right?

I just wanted to introduce myself and let you all know I'm not a troll or spammer and hopefully we will be in the crossfire family by the weekend!

Tim

Welcome aboard, and from all you have said, I'd recommend you look into a SRT6 Coupe or Roadster.

Hi. welcome to the forum. I am a Harley owner (11 Harleys owned the last 44 yrs). Crossfire is as close as you get to a Harley.

"I'd recommend you look into a SRT6 Coupe or Roadster"

I thought about that and from what I've read I am hoping the limited will suffice and still provide driveability and fun for my wife. This will ultimately be her car and she shouldn't need a s/c...I can't believe I just said that as my sop is normally to err on the side of Horsepower!

Anyway, from what I have researched, the hp:w on this should boogie; she won't go for a manual so with the autostick and peppy engine I am hoping this is a good option for her. I had a line on an immaculate srt6 but it sold before I got a chance to look at it.

I don't want to track the car, I just want it to be able to get out of it's own way and look sexy while doing it! Sexy this car def is and I'm pretty confident it will put a smile on her face.

I had an 89 Grand Wagoneer a while back and she just didn't get the "smiles per gallon" I felt about that beast but at 11mpg it was def a toy and had to go.

Thanks for the reply and I do appreciate you taking the time to post...

Tim

And also,

for all you Harley guys, if you need anything let me know as I do have a little experience!... and Nothing comes close to a Harley! just kidding; seriously though...

Thanks, yeah although the powerplant on the 500s is awesome, its the interior accoutrements that really impress; zero road noise, full hydraulic independent suspension, active body control and heated AND VENTILATED MASSAGING seats w/ adaptive bolstering.(read: I would love these seats in any other vehicle on the planet!)

I'm not worried about her driving; I have my own toys, and if she's driving I'm not DD!

thanks for the welcome and the post...Tim

Hope to see you as an owner soon! There is a "mandatory" picture post on this..

Harley.. well the Crossfire should be just as reliable.. My 2000 XLCh 1200 got a ride home once in the 10+ years I've owned it! (Now has a 2012 Heritage parked next to it while wife decides keep Yamaha Vstar 650 or take over Sportster )

"If" you get an N/A and feel it's lacking just a little.. the throttle body upgrade, Eurocharge Tune, and intake system will put you right in the giddy up zone.

Thanks, I'm sure the NA will be fine, already planning on tb and a good drop in a/c as I'm not a fan of re-engineering das germans when it comes to cai etc; don't boo me yet! just for DD I don't want to swap intakes, however I am interested in the eurotune. as a harley guy I know how detuned factory engines come in order to make the epa happy.

some good shocks, tires, tune and tb are planned; as well as spirited driving and many smiles. Like I said, I drive a staionwagon for "fun" so I'm sure this car will be a great garage addition, plus I'll gain floorspace!

cheers, Tim

And on the pics: no problem; I'm going to need new tires, "for safety, and to establish a maintenance baseline" so I' will be burning some down to rim to gauge engine and transmission performance for future reference/parameters.

YEAH YEAH;

I got the chance to test drive a few crossfires today and wow! Those things are fun. I narrowed it down to a very low mileage (about 50k) 2004 w/ leather etc in great cosmetic condition and the engine compartment looks immaculate. the PO installed the needswings 2 cai, which I'm not necessarily a fan of, but I figure if that's what I noticed first I figure he has some other things I haven't found yet.

I know that may be a red flag for some but I'm planning on driving this thing so I'm sure if it could put up w/ the POs abuse thats a pretty good testament too.

Also, the engine compartment is immaculate like showroom clean so If the last owner was that meticulous and detail oriented I'm gambling that he was a pretty good mech too; hoping anyway.

Anyway, this time tomorrow we should have some pics up and a fresh brake job and oil change. Tranny f/f to follow; then burn down those tires!

Oh yeah, and this is officially my wife's car so she has to approve to!

I definitely wouldn't shy away over already having the mods done! @50k sounds like she was more a weekend play toy for the PO's.. You can send your vin # to Eurocharged and they can run it in their data base to see if it already has the tune.. then wiggle around with a mirror and check the throttle body for the "upgraded" Part number stamp. Thats what I am hoping for, thanks for the upgraded tb # as that will save me for having to look for it later: I am really hoping this has been eurotuned and the will update it in the future if need be as that will save me some coin. Im figuring that dual cai would run like poop if it wasn't tuned right? anyway, this one was def responsive and FUN. Have to do some brake work but even if I have to throw on some goodridge s/s lines and Flush and fill, which I would anyway, I'm still ahead of the game, the price is def right and like I said it is clean. very excited and Thanks again for the TB #. I have seen the sprint booster around the forum also; if that was installed do you know where that would be plugged? just curious. thanks again

Tim

Actually the ECU has enough variance to compensate for the CAI.. I say check the vin # since "if" it has the throttle body upgrade also.. and has been tuned.. your pretty much done on the performance enhancements. The "free updates" are for original purchase only.. been down that road already..lol. (mine hadn't been so no biggy there). The sprint booster plugs in at the foot pedal.. and (at least the selectable versions) should be mounted just under the dash for easy access and "selection" of modes.

Got It!

this little thing is fun... think the PO stopped at the cai but I still have to email eurochargers or eurotuner. this car is clean! a little brake bleed and brakes were 100% better. Still going to s/s goodridge lines and flush and fill w/ blue fluid. but need to order some things.

Sorry about lousy garage pic but its what I got at this time; will post some more when the wife cleans her car!

Congrats and welcome into the family here! Even after two years.. I still had a blast in mine today! Colder temps and did a throttle reset.. all she wanted to do was spin the tires from a stop.. LOL.

We leave out Wednesday morning when it's time to head to the Dragon.. Pick you guys up in Little Rock? LOL

Found this one in Arlington, the one in Richardson was dirty and more mileage and a little higher price so this one was an easy choice. My wife, Rebecca, btw, loves it. she was apprehensive at first but came home today after running some errands and said she loves it! and is "expecting to get some tickets".

The speedo bezel was scratched where the rubberized paint was so i spent the a.m. taking the dash pad out and repainting it to match the body (graphite). Looks pretty good and simple. It's a 4+ hour job to remove my VW dash and I wouldn't have even attempted the job on her last Benz! I am loving the accessibility of everything on this car from a mechanic's point of view.

Thanks again for all the welcomes and I will try to get up some better pics but I lost my phone today too.

Crazy day; I have never lost a phone before and I distinctly remember having it when I took the car on a "test drive" today after doing brake work yesterday I wanted to make sure they were still good before turning it over to Beck. But then I couldn't find it; looked for atleast 3+hours and still no luck. oh well

Glad Rebecca loves it! Once things warm up we'll have a DFWXfires GTG. Hope you two will join us.
