New member contemplating a purchase.
I am a new member who is contemplating purchasing a Black SRT-6 with around 50k miles on it. The car is located on Long Island, NY as am I. I was wondering if any one knew of a either a certified Crossfire mechanic or qualified mechanic who knows these cars inside and out. I went to take it for a test drive and when we got in to start the car it wouldn't start lol. Not a good sign. The salesman at the dealership where it's located told me that the car was just taken in and rescheduled for me to do a test drive later in the week. According to the salesman the previous owner had an aftermarket alarm system which drained the battery The vin# is 1C3AN79N95X043462 If anyone also has any information on this car that would be much appreciated.Thanks.

for a mechanic, find an indy mercedes shop that works on AMGs, tell them you have a SLK32 (its basically the same car)
Good Luck

These cars do not have much tolerance for voltage fluctuation, so make sure if you buy it you get a new battery. I would be a bit concern about the story that the aftermarket alarm drained the battery. That only means it will do it again. I would ask that that get resolved by them.
It's a dealer who also owns according to them the number one Chrysler dealer in the United States. He said that they have a certified Crossfire Mechanic along with Certified Viper and Prowler mechanics on staff. They are asking $13,900 for the car plus the handling and prep fees etc, tags, tax etc. With all that the car was coming in at $16,500. He then brought it to around $15,000.They also have an after market warranty which they say will be a no hassle no questions asked bumper to bumper warranty for 4 years 40,00 miles for around $3,000 minus a $100.00 deductible per occurrence. I took the car for a test drive tonight and told him there were some things that I would like to check out. The car seemed a little figety in the rear end. I know that the ride is supposed to be a little firm, but something seemed a little off to me. I know a little about firm rides. I currently own an M3 with an adjustable racing coilover suspension 600 plus rear and 500 plus front. My M3 with a much stiffer suspension has a softer ride than the SRT-6, but since I'm not that familiar with these cars I'm not sure what to expect. They are going to check the car out head to toe with the Crossfire mechanic and get back to me later this week. He said if he didn't feel comfortable with the mechanic's diagnosis that he would send the car to auction. I told him I want to be around $15,500 including all fees and warranty out of the door. He said he would work with me. I think if I can get it at under $16,000 out the door with a 4 year 40,000 miles bumper warranty included that would be a nice deal. That also includes a loaner car and free oil changes for the life of the car.

I'm not sure how I feel about the extended warranty, but that's just a philosophical point, but make sure the lifetime oil changes are well understood. I had that same offer when I bought my first Crossfire. When it came time for the oil change they wanted to charge me the difference between a regular oil change (5 qts conventional oil) and what it costs to do an oil change on a Crossfire. This car takes 9 qts of Mobil1, and a more expensive oil filter. Dealers typically charge $150+ for the oil change. I bet they baulk on that offer once it's understood.
This one is for sale here by a member. A sweet one for $14,500 OBO.

I will double check with the salesman. He knows these cars very well and sold them new. I am not that mechanically inclined nor do I have the space to work on cars so the warranty along with the loaner car makes me feel a little bit safer about my purchase. While the SRT-6 in Atlanta might be a great car, it's too far away. I can not see or drive the car and I am hesitant to make a long distance purchase.

Unless it's very dirty, it appears to me the rear wheel on the passenger side is not actually an SRT-6 wheel. It's a Special Edition model wheel which is an SRT wheel painted dark gray between the spokes from the factory. If the back wheel hit a curb bad enough to damage the wheel an alignment is in order. Rear camber is not adjustable unless an after market kit/solution is installed.
BTW, it looks really nice all blacked out.

I found another black SRT-6 at a dealer in Mass. 41,000 miles. Looks very clean. There are a ton of pictures and comes back 84 out of 86 on car fax.
The pics and some info is on the website below,

The dealers website shows the carfax when you click on the Auto Check Elite Dealer button.

That one in Mass looks nice. There must be an epidemic of wheel center cap theft up your way?? . . . I suggest that you offer them $13,000+ tax and plates . . . see what they say. The worst they can say is "no" and they'll come back to you with a better price than their current asking price. Good luck . . .

I spoke with a salesman from the dealership in MASS. I asked him to send me any other pictures of dings and dents he had.
I am a little concerned about the car, because the salesman said that the wheels were just refinished ,because they were flaking off. That along with new tires all around. I have never heard of wheels flaking off only refinished due to curb rash or accidents. He said he could let it go for $14,000.00
