Wink Rear Spoiler

High everyone...I'm a "newbe" here, but I've had my 2004 Crossfire since 2005, and though its been trouble free, I am experiencing a problem of an electrical sort. The rear spoiler will deploy for no reason, and when it does, the tachometer the speedometer no longer function, and all the idiot lights come on. To get everything back as it should be requires turning the ignition off and on, and lowering the spoiler with the dashboard switch. That will re-set all the idiot lights and spedo/tach to normal. That may or may not last for any length of time. Any suggestion?

Welcome to the forum! First thought is the simplest, your battery is giving up the ghost, corrosion on the ground terminal or grounding lug, itself.

Primarily, the spoiler is actually not aerodynamic at all - it is simply a decoration and was designed to warn us of an aging battery.

Now, the indications you are getting on the dash make me wonder if this is not related to the above-mentioned ground terminal/lug, or the ground strap from the engine block to chassis.

I haven't been able to check out the "grounding" reply yet. Probably won't be able to until the weekend. However, in support of that notion, the fan blower stops at intersections unless I put the clutch in and rev the motor just a bit, and it gets better the longer I drive it on any given outing. Also, not all that long ago, I changed the battery. I thought I'd cleaned the terminals, but probably not the one on the chassis. Thanks again.

I would try monitoring the voltage as these things happen during your drive.

Indeed James. First I'll clean up all the ground connections with a wire brush and some contact cleaner.

Tach, odometer and spoiler have one thing in common I think amd that is speed sensors. That's my stab at the problem.

Wow. This should be easy to find.

I have seen that a weak battery causes this. Replace the battery and see what happens.

I read you post closely and saw you said you have already replaced your battery.
I did replaced mine years ago as well and was sure I had tightened the terminal clamps tightly.
I then was having intermittent electrical issues and months later I grabbed the terminals and gave them a twist and sure as hell
the positive clamp turned and therefore it was NOT tightened securely.
I removed the terminals and tried a trick told to me by a mechanic I know.
I replaced the terminals and before tightening them down I stuck the wire of a paper clip between the post and the clamp to help ensure that once tightened it was really tight.
This trick solved my intermittent problems and I was amazed that a slightly loose battery terminal clamp could cause the issues I had.
By the way the wing coming up was one of my issues and went away.

Good luck....these cars a complex when the power is interrupted in any way

Great post! Had a similar situation with a Kawasaki m/c years ago. Rode for quite a few miles, bike died, found slightly loose cable clamp. By then, the regulator/rectifier was toast!
I think my recent erratic spoiler action may have been from the same cause. Seems to be back to normal now, after some battery charging (due to sitting a bit) & reinstalling the cables, as you described.
