Hello to everyone. My name is Robert and I got my 2004 crossfire in July. I joined this group because I really like my car it just seems to have a healthy appetite for cash. Being that I'm on a fixed income It's not looking good if I want to keep it. I've never known much about working on cars but not knowing what to do is all that's stopping me.

 

Welcome and congratulations on the Crossfire purchase. I own three and found the Crossfire overall is a very reliable car. Almost all of the usual problems found can be fixed without too much mechanical/auto experience. The issue now is these cars are getting old and depending on the mileage a 15 year old car will have worn out and even rusted parts that would require more professional help if you don't have wrenching experience. For the most part, you should avoid the dealership as they don't have the experience and their parts prices are inflated. There are some shocking stories on that on the forum. If you need to find a mechanic look for an independent shop that works on German cars. If the prior car owner(s) didn't do proper maintenance and repairs you may have bought the car at a bargain, but would now have to deal with the catch up repair costs. It's basically a Mercedes under the skin.

You should first use the search option to research any problems or issues. I would say they have all been covered. If you still need help there are many that will help you. We have a couple old geezers, which I resemble so I can say it, that are real subject matter experts. Sometimes they can be gruff, maybe because they have answered the same question so many times, or because not enough detail is provided. You will be chastised if you do not give detail on the problem you are trying to solve. The detail is required to clearly understand the problem.

 

Youtube has a lot of " how to " videos showing: how to install , remove parts, and resolve problems for crossfires and other videos for most repairs that would work for your car such as regular maintenance procedures.
