Not run for years. Now cranking but not starting. What next?
Not run for years. Now cranking but not starting. What next?
Hi Guys. I have had a 2005 Chrysler crossfire in my garage for over 5 years and hasn't been run for that long. Decided to bring it back to life. Question is where to start? I replaced the batteries. Replaced the fuel. I tried starting it up and it cranks, but it won't start. Just an fyi, the car was working with no issues before it was parked in.
Looking up online different suggestions.. go from fuel pump, crankshaft sensor, ignition switch.
I know I will have to check multiple items here. But based on fact that it was sitting in the garage, what should I start off with?

You are making this too hard.
What is your fuel pressure? (Fuel pump/regulator)
Do the plugs fire? (Crank and cam sensors, fuse 11, etc.)
The engine needs only:
Fuel
Air
Spark
Compression
I doubt the first or last one is missing, what about the other two?
Any fuel sitting for five years is no longer fuel - I"d have pumped ALL fuel from the tank, then opened the valve at the end of the rail and jumpered the fuel pump relay - and pumped the tank dry.
THEN, add one gallon of gas, and pump THAT out as well.
THEN, put gas in the tank and start from there - with known-good fuel.
At that point, I have eliminated the whole "fuel" question (and verified fuel pressure at the same time). I do wonder what condition the fuel filer is in, with old gas/ethanol having sat in it for five years.
Sounds like ya got a hell of a good parts car there. I need fog lights.....

Going to try the starting fluid first. Have changed out all the spark plugs. Will check fuel pressure next. One thing I did notice is that when I was cranking it.. the RPM gauge showed no movement at all. Fuel gauge does show that it has fuel.

( don't overlook the fuel pump relay in the RCM )

When you turn the key on, before cranking, can you hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds? If not, check the fuel pump fuse, If that is good then the RCM fuel pump relay. Check everything else, before installing a new fuel pump and then finding it still doesn't work. Good luck, you will get it. Lots of good help here.

And, you did check the fuel pump fuse to make sure it is good? if you are at the fuel pump, can you check power to the pump when you first turn key on. You will need long leads to a multimeter while you key on, or have a helper. That would tell you if you have power all the way to the pump. Good luck. You will get it, and be ecstatic when you do.
