Dammit!! Tire shop just called. They are refusing to mount my 275/30-19 tires on my SRT because they are not manufacturer's spec! They say that the difference in "stagger" (that's the difference between the width of the front tires and the rear tires) will affect the handling. NO **** DUMBASS! I _KNOW_ it will affect the handling. THAT IS WHY I AM PUTTING THEM ON!

I hate tire shops.

 

I hear you, Tom, the tire shop here would not mount my old tires for me to use for a track day because they had less than 5/32nds. I explained it was for a track day and they refused, I don't think the guy in the back sitting on his *** was ready to work on anything...

Good luck finding a good one, but once you do, there is nothing better than a good tire shop

 

Its crazy how tire shops will differ. I was pricing tires and Costco wouldn't even give me prices for non stock sized tires for my car. When I called the tire shop that I like to use the guy asked me if I was going to bump up in size on the SRT like I did on my NA. He said that they actually recommend the 285/35/19 on the rear to other XF owners now because of the better looks/handling.

BTW - what a difference a set of tires makes. A new set of tires rides SO much nicer than a bald set.......

Kim I agree, the taller tires do improve the looks, but they actually slow down the overall acceleration of your car. Because just by changing the diameter of your tire by 1" is almost like removing the 3.27 gear ratio, in your NA car, and giving it a higher gear ratio closer to the 3.07 that's in your SRT.
A 255/35/19 tire is just as wide as a 285/35/19, but the 285 is 9/10's of an inch taller. Thus slowing down the cars acceleration.
If you're not drag racing, it shouldn't matter to ya though.

 

Kimmy...were coming on Thursday and staying thru Monday...getting older and have to ease in and out of fun more slowly, LOL!

 

Aren't stock 255/40/19? I don't really care - the car reads almost the exact same MPH & looks 100000% better. Yup, I like the tires that much more!

Holy Crap Batman I never heard of that before ,that what I have on mine ,and the tire shop was happy to help....

Took an early run on the Dragon today to check out the new sway bar and it does make a difference. However with the new adjustable camber arms I am scrubbing the fender wells. TO make matters worse the car was running like crap when I got back to DEALS GAP and the engine light was glowing. Bottom line I need a mass air flow sensor. I have sent Mrmopar A PM. Going to try and find one at a local parts store. Hope it goes better than than the Chrysler Dealership in Ashville which told me I could drop off the car and they would look at it next Tuesday. (bet a Lexus or BMW dealership would have been a little more helpful for a customer 600 miles from home) Hope tomorrow goes better

 

John I have one, it used but it is in working order, but I will not be in until thur around 830 900 ,we can work somthing out think i pay 50.00 bucks for it

 

SSB SRT-6 passed its first 10K miles …. got the i-pod control installed …. was professionally detailed for the first time since I got it last Oct. Probably put a bra on …. ready for the 2012 Spring Dragon! Look forward to see our fast and furious leader Kim again – thank you for all the work Kim! - and look forward to meet everyone!
