Default BMW 1-Series Prices and configurator now on US BMW site...

Well, first the good news. The US price list and configurator has been added to BMWUSA.COM as of yesturday. You can now access all the information, specs, options and USD prices for the 128i and 135i.

The bad news is that BMW IS SMOKING CRACK! I just put together a very nice little pocket rocket of a 135i Twin-Turbo. The one I virtually built featured Metallic Paint, Navigation, Premium Package, Sport Package, Cold Weather Package, Comfort Access System, Premium Sound, and iPod interface. All that in the Baby Beemer for a mere $44,925 + Destination!

Hanz, put the crackpipe DOWN! $44,925 for a 1-Series with what I would consider typical equipment? That didn't include Automatic, Active Steering, Back-Up Assist, HD Radio, XM Radio, and some other small misc. items. A fully loaded one with all option boxes checked weighs in at more than $48,000 USD!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF???? The last generatino M3 was only $53,000 when it came out in 2003. A comparable 335i Coupe now is only about $4,500 more(the new 3 Series is also WAY overpriced aswell). I mean damn... I just can't believe it. I thought they had a sure winner here, but I can't conceive that there are very many people that would pay $40,000 + for an entry level BMW. You could any number of other import performace coupes for less than that...

Here's putting in perspective. Doing the math of the $44,925 BMW, you buy an Impala SS V8, a Cobalt Sedan, a 60 in HDTV, and a full Bose Home Theater System and still have $1,000 left over...

DISCUSS!

I saw that today too. The one I built was ~42k. That is a little nuts IMO, of course the SRT6 sticker was a little nuts too, but I digress.
I was thinking a loaded I35 would be ~33k. I was way off.

BMW is entry level only on the base model ! And this model is written up in autoweek as a new Drivers car and not really expected to be less a expensive BMW so they say!

I'd rather spend the extra $6,000 and get the Z4 Coupe. Long bonnet, two seats, and a tiny trunk are the way to go!!

Well, I thought "all" BMW's were the "Ultimate Driving Machines." To say that this 1-Series is a more driver oriented and performing car defieswhat the public perception is, and when it comes to what people believe, Perception is Reality. 1,3,5,6,7 They go in order of size and price, so therfore the 1 is the ENTRY LEVEL car. I don't care what Autoweek sayus it is, they don't buy them. They are handed these cars to use for free. That description easily matches the new 335i Coupe aswell. Regardless of the BS and Babble that the pipe smoking marketing gurus in Bavaria are spewing, it's the cheapest BMW currently available and it prices itself out of the market. The average BMW buyer isn't even worried about the performance, only what their neighbors think. I don't think they will justify spending $40,000 on what the neighbors will think is a cheap entry level car, whrn they can get the same options on a 3 Series for $4,000 more. that's only $75 more a month in payment for the 3, which one would you buy? If you're going to pay $600 a month for a 1, you may as well pay $675 for the nicer 3. Just my $0.02. I'm sure that 99% of the general public will feel the same way. oh, and you size 6 font in your posts is REALLY annoying! I fixed it for you.

I'm not really a fan of Chevrolet cars or Bose sound systems.

I'm not either, but it was the first mix I came up with... Try this one...

A V6 XLE Camry, a Yaris, a 60 In HDTV, and a Denon/Infinity Home theater...

Or about 2/3 of the list price of the new Nissan GT-R, which runs rings around Ferraris, Lambos, the R8, and the Porsche 911 Turbo... all for a "1" class entry vehicle?

I have to admit that I loved the idea of the one series initially myself. Still do to some degree. I'd have to say that with this kind of pricing, though, BMW has merely made another competitor to their own 3-series.

real nutty from a marketing standpoint...though they build almost to perfection, they just are not hitting the "right time right place" homeruns they did back in the 90's....they need to get some young punks drooling in their showrooms, imo.

Lol. Hmm.. Upon browsing this forum for some BMW review. Right now I am thinking twice to get BMW as my second car. Geez.
