Default Advice on Z car

I am looking for a 1987-1993 Z car Turbo in the 3-$4000 range and have had no problem finding a number of them that I will begin looking at this week. I have never owned one and am looking for guidance on what to watch out for. Are any particular year worse than others for example.
Thx
Rich

If I was in Florida I would come over and write you a check. Clean car!! I am looking at a 1987 Turbo ZX for $3150. It looks nice from the pictures (white). I just wanted to tap some of the key things to look for.

Watch out for the transmission; the synchros are notorious for going bad in the turbo cars. I had a 1988 N/A 300zx that I bought off the original owner with 180,000 miles and it looked/worked like new. I had NO issues with the car and took it to a little over 200,000 miles. Then I "sold" it to my sister; she didn't pay for it yet........or ever, and she rearended someone and totalled the car with no insurance.

Mopar
I am looking at a 1987 ZX manual with 167,000 for $3150. I know it has a problem with the power window (will only go back up when you push on it), AC (sometimes blows warm?) and a oil leak(not show from where). It has new tires and muffler. I did consider a Mitsubishi but I have a seen a lot of them with major engine overhauls prior to 100,000 miles. Maxwell, I know where there is (eclipse) a 2002 for $7995. Its not a turbo though but would be fun to drive. I am looking for a daily driver that gets decent mileage but is still fun to drive. I don't have much of a budget (3-6) max.

It seems that that car is in need of a window regulator(and possibly motor as well), a/c recharge(possibly more), and you would need to get under the car to deturmine the source of the leak. I would stay away from the 3000gts as they are just big heavy money pits. Also; $3150 is a little steep for a car of that age with the mentioned issues.............I paid $1750 for my 1988 in 2001 and it was in PERFECT condition. I would wait for a better cheaper Z to turn up. Have you tried autotrader.com?
