Bottom of the Oil Barrel, What Gets The Worst Fuel Economy in the World?

Lamborghini

When it comes to fuel economy, there are champs like the Toyota Prius, and then there are chumps.

Along with being one of the fastest and most expensive cars on the road today, the $350,000 Lamborghini Murcielago is also the king of the gas guzzlers. Its 640 horsepower engine sucks down a gallon of gasoline for every 8 miles it travels in the city and 13 on the highway for a nice round EPA combined rating of 10 mpg.

The folks that figure Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards are a little more lenient and say it gets 12.5 mpg, but it matters little. Even if Lamborghini could triple that figure tomorrow, it would still come up short of the new 39 mpg standard.

if i could afford one,
i wouldn't care what mpg it got.
buy a 200 ft yacht, it uses 150 gal per hour that= 2,5 mpg. Oh I forgot you have to hire 12 man crew to polit the ship whereever you want to go, thats makes the mpg minis 21.7gal per mile. jim

nice car. When looking for a luxury car then it's Lamborghini, and if we'd been looking for performance level and economical car then it should be the Toyota Prius. Even wholesale toyota parts are economical! Yet, both of these cars are great and stunning.

I find it interesting that so many of us look at just one aspect of a car to make a decision if it is """ Good " or " Bad"""
Since the Prius has been noted I thought I would look at some of the other factors that affect the safety of a car.
One item would be its ability to be capable in the total environment in which we drive. In this case taking a car on the highway.
Take two cars intended only for use in the City. The Prius and the smart car.
Prius - Total HP = 98 HP Curb weight 3042 lb MPG 48 Hwy
smart - Total HP = 70 HP Curb weight 1808 lb MPG 41 Hwy

A measure of safety is a the ability for a car to merge with traffic and that is affected by its ratio of curb weight / HP
Prius = 31.04 lb per HP
smart = 25.88 lb per HP
Crossfire = about 16 lb per HP - other end of the scale example

In the case of the Prius Near Dangerous
In the case of the smart not bad at all

in the case of the Crossfire "Exhilarating"
