new camaro wow
Drove by a new black SS Camero and I have to say it was a fantastic looking car! It certainly looks way hotter in real life than in any magazine. Almost afraid to see how much chevy is asking for one though. Anyone out there driven in one, Id be interested in your take on it.
Thanks,
Curtis

its a bigger car than any of the old Camaro, note spelling g-g, LOL...I have had 5 Camaros in my day...use to call them the "poor man's corvette", until I could finally afford vettes...anyway, I don't want to pay $40+ for any car anymore...so, I like them, drive fine, almost like a new Challenger in some ways, but I would spend $40K on a restore '69 thru '72 before I would buy a new one....

A local stealership(that Chrysler put the axe to now, HAH) had one of the first SRT-8 Challengers in town with a $42.5k MSRP and a $28.5k(market adjustment and detail package) which brought it up to $69,000 BEFORE TTL!!!! They actually sold the damn thing at that price.
yeah, local dealer here sold 5 before they were even delivered, had a sold one of the floor for a long time until they could get their alotment in...but that is drying up now. Chevy will have a few hard core guys buy them, in fact, one of my buddies already ordered his. Now, I am not certain, maybe someone else knows, Chevy wasn't saying when I was in Detroit for last yrs cruise, whether they were going to make a Z version...They'd have to do an LS1 in her before this old guy would bite, and the price would have to be reasonable...not 100K like the ZR-1. That, I might sell the XF for...then again....
As a former Z-28 owner, I look forward to seeing one in person.
I wonder if GM had future plans to resurrect the Firebird/Trans Am before Government Motors put the ax to Pontiac. That would have helped them defer the development cost over two cars. Now they have to count on one car to do that. Oh wait, we the tax payers just did that for them.

as to the governbment marketing cars, they don't have to. if we don't buy them they will just raise taxes to pay the wages and flog the dead horse again. Like Amtrak. If all else fails they could make cool cars illegal.

HERE
Stopped at a show room the other day to look at the Camero ... they had a base model positioned right next to a 'Vette Z505.
Wasn't overly impressed with the Camero for some reason.

SS has become the most over-used plate in the chevy line up.
I love the way this car looks and what its got in side "on paper". That's the problem everything I've seen is "on paper" ( either Motor Trend or Online). I've been to several dealers and no one has one. One dealer told me that they had 11 coming in the end of this week but they were all sold. If I wanted one I could give him a deposit. I asked for a brochure, they didn't even have that. Either I'm a bit premature in checking this car out or Chevy is blowing this bigtime. I've spoken to people who have seen them on the street but I have yet to see one in the flesh.
Oledoc - one of things that I find very attractive is 430hp for 31K, I think the top of the line SS 2 is only a few thousand more so they are not 40K unless dealers are adding premiums which wouldn't surprise me. My one and only Camaro was a 70 1/2 Z-28 which was scary fast.
I would love to see one and drive one, probably the last of the muscle cars we will ever see from GM.

300+ horsepower from the V6 is better than the stock old skool Camaros/Firebirds
I like the vintage quad gauge package too.
But even as a former Camaro owner, I dread the mere idea of chatting up a stealer about one. None are in showrooms in my area. In contrast, the unicorn-status Solstice coupe IS available to sit in (Didn't like it but was at least able to sit in it).

I just think its too big...and it was a guess at 40K, they wouldn't give out numbers at the Dream Cruise last year...I have owned several, but my '69 Z-28 was orange blk stripes, then I went to a big block in '71... SS 396 (402)...I had 2 other SS's after that, went to Vettes for awhile, came back to a Heretage Pkg Z-28 in '92....it was blk, with red stripes, loaded...had ignition problems, it went to TX...back to Vettes...then kids to college, no toys, just work, came back to Vettes, oops, XF, my wife said no vette yet...but I haven't regretted it yet...except for that ZR-1...

I saw one in person the other day. Yes, the quad gauge setup is cool... if you notice them under the "Starship Enterprise" climate controls. Also, the placement and design of the back-up lights, makes me think that they built the car and then realized that they forgot to put back-up lights in! "Hey Earl, did you put the back-up lights in??" "No Carl, I thought you did!"
I think the Challenger is better looking.
