Your very first car...driving/owning
What was yours?
Unfortunately I don't have photos but I found the similar ones thanks to the wonder of the internet.
Driving: I learned to drive on my mother's 1972 gold Monte Carlo - just like this beauty. That car began my long affliction with lead foot.

Owned: My first car - bought with $200 cold hard cash - 1962 Chevy II. Originally robin's egg blue but graced with a primer red front end when I bought it (among other crappy additions). Car was a rolling deathtrap but it was my very own, lol.

The first car that I owned was a 1967 Olds 98. The engine was a 455 Rocket with Ultra High Compression. That engine was bullet proof. As a 16 year old kid, I did everything in my power to blow it up, and did not succeed.
Ahhh.... the memories of being young..... broke..... and having the time of my life!!
My first car was a 1951 Ford convertible I bought with a friend for $50.00. No title, just a rustbucket with a smoky flat head six and a rotted top. We didn't know a rear axle bearing flange from a set of breaker points, but had decided we could fix it up and share it . We got the engine running with help from his dad, the 3 speed tranny was fine, the body was all bondo when we were done, and had it in rattle can primer. Seats were cheap covers from JC Whitney held on with duct tape.
That's when my mom found out I wasn't studying & doing homework at Glenn's house. She also found my lawn mowing money was gone. Into the Ford. Glenn borrowed $25.00 from his dad and gladly bought me out.
I was 13 at the time.
That same summer about 6 miles away, the St Louis Chevy plant was building my 1960, Black with red leather interrior, 348 Impala convertible. But I wouldn't own it until 1968 and two cars later.

in 1956 my brother and i bought a 1929 ford roadster stock, so stock that when you put the brakes on your foot jumped up and down as the wheel went a round, i guess that was the begining of abs lol,, it would go 72 mph ,, we paid 12 dollars for it, sold it for 25.00 2 years later. jim
Well, my Dad a had a '69 SS El Camino, which he would let me drive...Dad worked 2nd shift, so I had her all evening...once the guys on 1st shift told Dad they were tired of Doc Jr whippin' up on them...and he had to replace the rear tires....well, my 1st car was a '69 Z-28...Dad was tired of sponsoring me....man, did I mow a lot of yards, including 2 grave yards...but it was worth it...
My first car I drove was a 1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette...
I worked at 16 and had to driving the parents minivan to get around.
First car I bought was a 1999 Ford F-150 5spd. I beat the heck out of that thing. Loved it, sold it before my freshman year in college. Bought a 1994 Chevy S-10 Blazer w/ Tahoe Package sophmore year of college and kept that until my '07 Crossfire in April 2008, then my SRT6 in April 2009.

...and yes it was in that ugly color...but it was the first car I drove.

A tan 1956 Oldsmobile 88 coupe. Paid $60 for it in 1966. Sold it a few months later for $100.
At that point, I thought making money with cars was easy and fun. I didn't even have a license when I bought it or sold it.
When I did get my license a year later, my first car was a black 1959 Cadillac convertible. Paid only $260 for that one. If I had it today, it would be worth over $50k in nice shape...
Neither one of these were mine, just photo examples.

I took my drivers test in January of 67 in my Mom's !962 Dodge Dart 440. HowStuffWorks "1962 Dodge Dart 413: A Profile of a Muscle Car"
Unfortunately, it didn't have a "Max Wedge" like the one in the photo (just a 318) but it was a 2 dr. hardtop, and it had the numbers "413" on the license plate.
(Faked out more than a few stoplight challengers afraid to take a chance).
I paid $550 for my very first car in the spring of 67. It was a white 1963 Dodge 880 convertible, 361-2bl (un-maxed) wedge V8.
Only "mods" I made were chrome Crager SS mag wheels, mounted on (then, hardly ever seen) BFG radial tires. And big honkin dual exhaust with "glass-pack" mufflers.
Big boat of a car, basically a Chrysler New Port with a Dodge front end. Lots of fun to go "parking" in though, plenty of room to strech out.
A lot of Dodge 880's were used as Highway Patrol cars back then. Because they really felt "planted" in highway pursuit situations.

Hey FP, it even had a "hood ornament".lol

My first car was given to me by my dad and it was a crappy bodied 1977 Chevy Monza Towne Coupe with a factory 305 V8. I ended up finding and buying a near mint(body wise) 1977 Chevy Monza 2+2 with a frozen 4 banger for $50. I then took the 305 from the original car and put it into my 2+2. That engine didn't last too long(too weak) so I bought a slightly built 355 V8 and threw it in there and drove the car off and on for 4 years until the transmission went out on me on the way home from work on a Friday night and I ended up buying a nice SRT-4 Sunday evening because I couldn't get the Monza up and running in time and needed a car to drive to work. The Monza sat in my fathers yard for 2 years before I decided to sell it to the crusher/wrecking yard for the exact same $50 I originally paid for the car.
A black 1981 MkI VW Rabbit similar to the one below...$1000 in 1993 money - given to me by my father.
It was actually a very fun car, but I was a very poor driver then and I got into an accident which made the car slowly fall apart.

'64 1/2 Mustang convert. It was the first Mustang ever sold in Dallas. It was published in the Dallas Morning News with a photo of my dad next to the car. My dad passed away a few years later.

1965 Hillman IMP, 875 cc-d ohc , rear wheel drive and rear mounted engine, Aluminum block, 350 English Pounds, I could hit 100 mph and would run with Mini Coopers,
My first was a 13 year old 66 mustang 6 cyl auto. About 2 years later I bought a '65 with a 4 barrel 289, 4speed, and front disc brakes. Loved them both but sold the '65. I still have the 66, in storage for 22 years and waiting for someone to love it again.
I got a 1959 Ford Galaxie 500 hardtop in 1963. It was advertised as " the world's most perfectly proportioned car" at the time. That tells you the liberties that advertisers would take! It was a very bland car, 292 V8 and Ford O Matic trans and had about 45 K on it when I got it and was butt ugly!
The reason for getting it was that the year before as a Junior in college I bought a Lambretta 150 cc motor scooter for my transportation. After a year of my parents worrying about my getting killed on the highway on the scooter (55 mph WFO) they offered to buy me a used car if I would sell the scooter and put that $ towords the car and they would provide the rest. Deal done and the Ford was the result.
The car lasted a year and was burning oil at about 200 miles per qt at the end. I had to go in the army at that point so end of the Ford saga...

I learned on an old pickup truck in Mexico when I was 13, but this is what my first car looked like in a 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente w/ a 289. It was the family hand-me-down, but I loved it. Would love to get my hands on one just like it again.
