I read that the driver did 250.1 in the spring. I guess the theory is that the wind grabbed the chute & yanked the car all around. I don't know very much about deploying a chute to stop a car .... is that an actual danger you would need to be aware of, a freak thing, or a crapola excuse to cover something else up?
Maybe I can help a little.
The driver was Richard Holt in his Lambo Gallardo Twin Turbo built by Underground racing. This car holds the Texas mile record @250mph reached in march this year. Back then it had around 1200hp, I think.
Here is a video of his pass from last time:
For some reason my computer does not show me the player so here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Afh9gsV9tV4
This time the car put out 1700hp to the wheels! Here is a pic of the dyno too proof that I am not talking bs
.

Well supposedly he deployed the brake shoot and got caught in bad crosswind leading the car to lift and fly 20ft into the air.
The driver walked away and is healthy.

Without a scratch?
Jake/Jerry had said that lifeflight was called in...
...on the lighter side, Jake's E55 did 180.5mph as his fastest last I heard. Pretty impressive.

I'm shocked that a Texas Mile event, with hundreds of amateur cameramen on hand, that no one has a clip of the car flying.
But if I were to bust my @ss in Wal-Mart, it would be a Youtube sensation.

I'm just glad the driver made it out alright. I've had good friends die in accidents that don't look much worse than a fender bender so you never know when, where or how your time will come but the man upstairs wasn't ready for this fellow yet.
It goes without saying that everyone is ecstatic that he's alive and relatively unharmed. Only the worst of people would wish any harm on a fellow motorsport enthusiast.
How many times have we seen footage of Space Shuttle Columbia explode? That's my point.

I present to you, a MUCH better video of the horrific crash.

I would like you guys to run that video, and stop frame it as I did, and tell me what you see....and I know I wasn't there, but watch it in slow, stop frame motion....and he sure wasn't at 200 either...
Searching youtube for "twin turbo gallardo" you'll find that same guy (same car too) in a nicely done video documenting his attempt at 240 with no prior experience
. When you watch the vids you see him spin out almost every time when he's done with the run so I'm sure the guys is still new to driving that fast. Not saying I could do better (give me a car that could do 240 and I'd be more than happy to try though!) Just my opinion anyway...
