Default porsche GT3?

At the last coffee and rides here in SA this car was there. I tried to read up a bit and didn't realize what I was getting into. There is a lot of different options and models when it comes to porsche that I had never realized. Is this the 500 hp one that has a 4.0 liter? How in the heck do they squeaze so much HP out of these things?

Actually 500 is not the top of the ladder. Many of the turbo and twin turbo models with a mod or two are running 650 plus. Ask member 32krazy who has a beautiful yellow 996(i believe) twin turbo model. If you have been doing some research you have seen the amazing evolution of the 911 model. One of my all time favorite cars.

Not to mention they make a GT3RS that is basically stripped of a ton of weight making it even quicker!

I was hoping that Steve would have started a thread or two on this section of the forum so we could see his life after the slk. What does a 996 twin turbo do in teh 1/4 mile? I imagine these cars a really light but I have not heard about them being quarter horses.

I like the cars but this old gear jammer would rip the shifter out of it. Cables don't get it for the old guy. Just got back from FL with the companies LPE converted Camaro 600 HP whipple s/c car. Can't say I like the shifter in it either. But we didn't break it. Just had to be careful with the narrow gate. Seems today's cars are about convenience not quarter miles no "rock crushers" in the new ones. But I will add a car likes Steve's sure as hell comes on once the turbos come up to boost. But I still like to bang shift and that you won't do. That is why I don't mind the auto in the XF.

If I remember right top gear uk had Porsche lover Hammond in a lime green gt3 and he was in love with the 450hp n/a car over the turbo model. He said the added weight plus the turbo lag was killing the car in the corners. Hammond went on to say the added power wasn't enough to make up for it in the straights plus the added cost of the turbo model the n/a was the better buy. I'm sure in a high way pull the turbo model would be faster but really who cares the gt3 is an art master piece that I'm sure is enjoyed by all who own them!

My PCA instructor had a N/A GT3 (450hp) and we ran over 10 minutes around the track. I can tell you that they corner really well stock. The grip blew me away. The motor is peaky. It's not lazy down low, just "feels good" power. In the higher revs the power climbs almost like a motorcycle. Real strong up top and it builds and feels like it could rev forever. However, I doubt most people could just get one and go fast. They take a certain driving style that's taught or learned. They can be widow makers to the foolhardy.

Nice explanation and experience feedback, you should write for an automobile column.
