Heck, you can get a low milege Lotus V8 Esprit for low $40's...
Dan, it's all about what you enjoy. Some people would rather eat a steak at Outback than at Ruth's Chris. Some can afford one, not the other.
Both are irrational indulgences compared to the cost of grilling a couple of steaks at home.
Crossfire, 350Z, Elise, Vette, Viper, Audi TT, Evo, STi, Z4, Boxster...they all defy any type of rational explanation for their existence.
Whatever floats your boat. It's all good.

That's true about your boat but if you're looking for ultimate performer for price then I don't see it in the Elise Lotus /toyota. for almost $50k. new maybe $20k used.It just doesn't do it for me .

You're quite the troller, Dan...you really are.
Just so I can get a better sense of how you've arrived at your conclusion re the Elise...a conclusion I might add that is not shared by virtually any major automotive publication...the same publications which by and large have declared the Crossfire mediocre and outdated engineering at best...just how many Lotuses, of any vintage have you driven? Ridden in? How many Elise's have you SEEN in person, let alone ridden in or even driven.
Right...didn't think you really had too much first hand experience re Lotuses of any model, let alone the Elise.
Having owned a Crossfire, you'll forgive me if I suggest my first hand experience with both cars is grounded with a tad more reality than yours...just an observation.
In other words, you really have no idea what you're talking about, right?
Looks like you wore out your JC Whitney catalogue buying all them doo dads for your ride...what's next, the neon door sills?

Around here it seems like most cars are backed up on the lots these days. The new Mustang is in the dealer lots and not on the roads. I think the economy still sucks and people aren't dishing out the money for anything that doesn't have deep discounts or 0% interest. Sports cars here in the snow country don't sell too well in the winter, anyway.
You could be right about the Crossfire, Kusheen. It may be one of those short-lived vehicles but I am glad I have one, because I love mine!(And I'm not looking to get rid of it any time soon)

Well, Dan and I are just having some fun...at least I am. One of the reasons I got the Elise now, at a very good price, is that it's winter, nobody is buying a sports car in this weather in the North East, the dealer wants to move the cars because of floor planning.
After the major car shows, the Elise, new Vette, Mustang, and other cars will explode again through the Spring and Summer. Crossfire roadster too. The coupe, though, is just as much a niche car as the Elise.

Wow...Maximum G Sports Car Award on Spike TV tonight. None other than Carroll Shelby there receiving an award.
Nominees for maximum sports car...New Vette, Porsche Carrera, Ferrari Enzo, Dodge Viper, Lotus Elise...funny....didn't see the Crossfire in there anywhere. Must've been an oversight, right Dan? Probably got an honorary mention, right behind the Ford GT, Aston Martin, Jag XK8, Porsche Boxster, Honda S2000, BMW Z4, Audi TT, Nissan 350Z, Infinititi G35, Mazda RX 8, Mitsu Evo, Subaru WRX STi, Mazda Miata, Dodge Neon SRT, Saturn Ion, Scion Tc, Scwhinn 10 speed, Western Flyer...but those AMG mats look really, really cool.

Yes. I've driven an NSX. Funny, I didn't see the current NSX nominated for anything either. Anyway, I pulled into an Acura dealership with my 84 Esprit, and they fell all over themselves to take their one and only NSX out of the showroom for me to drive. You stepped WAY, WAY, WAY down to a Crossfire from an NSX? Mmmmm...it's becoming clear...there's a bit of day dreaming going on here, methinks.
I've driven a Diablo, an X180R, a Ferrari 330, a Ferrari F40, a Shelby GT350 race prepped, a REAL Shelby 427 Cobra, Caterham w/full Cosworth setup (courtesy of Dennis Simon). Where are you going with this? Are you suggesting that the Crossfire is in the Esprit/NSX/Elise/Porsche/Vette/Viper/class? C'mon, you seem like a bright guy...get real.
The NSX is a nice car. A high speed Honda. Too perfect. No character. Not nearly as quick as a S4 4 cylinder Esprit, and humbled by the twin turbo V8's. The Elise spanks it on a road course. That's not just me, that's really always been the rap against the NSX...it's simply got too clinical a feel. That, and it goes through its very expensive tires every 2000 miles. I had my Esprit parked next to an NSX in a Gucci Giant parking lot, and people climbed over the NSX to look at and paw the 'dated' Giugiaro bodied 84 Esprit. The NSX owner was quite crest fallen.
You just don't get it Dan. Sorry, you just don't get it. Why not put a CROSSFIRE foil logo along your rockers...that's all your car is missing. Varooooommm... For godsakes, you're arguing the merits of an automatic transmission sports car with a recirculating ball steering rack. Do you have any idea how silly that sounds?

You're a real hoot Dan. You seem to think the Toyota drivetrain is a negative. It sure beats a decade old, single overhead cam discarded mercedes engine with a 6 speed manual that's STILL popping out of 6th gear. That, and it will flat out kick the Crossfire's ***, plain and simple, 0-60, in the quarter, on the skidpad, in the slalom, in braking, and on the track. Gets better gas mileage and is cheaper to insure. Spin it any way you want, the Elise destroys the Crossfire by any enthusiats's yardstick.
I'll take the Toyota drivetrain, with its serviceability, reliability, and overall strength. Gladly.
I HAD a Crossfire. You've never even sat in an Elise.
Go test drive one. You'll humbly apologize. I won't rub it in. I promise.
The Crossfire DOES win with heated seats and mirrors, wrench lights to remind of oil changes, electirc seats, and nifty little automatic wings.
That's pretty much it, right?
Enjoy your residual (non) resale value.

That sentence didn't make a whole lot of sense, Dan. Getting tired?
Anyway, go thumb through your JC Whitney catalogue again. Maybe get a tinted decal that says 'Crossfire' to put across the top of your windshield to add to all those doo dads you've already added to your ride. That should add .25 hp and cause some family in a mini van to stare at your car. That's why you got it, right?
Why are you adding all that stuff to your ride? To hear you talk, it's a hot ride right out of the box.
Teee Heee Heee...where's Wes when you need him? At least HE was UP to a good give and take. Dan, you're way too easy.

In the NSX defense, the NSX is more reliable than that of the Esprit S4 or that of the TT V-8. A friend of my dad's had the esprit and had alot of problems. Granted for looks, and performance you can't beat it.
I would trade my underperforming XF for a new elise in a heartbeat. Anyone in their right mind would. Its a performance benchmark. There isn't one segment where the crossfire is better in terms of performance. Except maybe in comfort, and I'm not that comfortable in the XF as it is, so I might as well get some or in terms of the Elise alot of performance for that trade off.
Kusheen, what did you think of the caterham? I have always wanted to drive one of those.
I think you guys are comparing apples and oranges. These are vastly different cars. The Crossfire can be used as a daily driver. It's good looking, reliable and fairly comfortable. Add to that it has decent performance and handling. It's a compromise. The Elise is not. It's a second or third car. Something you take out of the garage to refresh your spirit or race on the weekends .Both cars have a purpose, and their own strenghts and weakness.I think both are good.

I believe that the Elise is what it is an exspensive go kart .excellent one and not designed for everyday use just that.I'm not into those type of cars for that limited use.
As for the NSX I had new in 91@ $67k out the door it was concidered the best CAR ever built by the car world .Been there done that.
As for the Crossfire it is far from perfect but enjoyable enough for me to keep it until the next car I find to drive ,still looking.
