Either one (4.6 or coyote) will probably necessitate trimming the shock towers (or installation of Mustang II) cause even though the Fairlane is an intermediate sized car the engine bay is pretty small.

I suggest looking a racingjunk and see if anyone is getting rid of a stroker.

I think the Five liter would be a simple drop in swap, and you can go as fast as you want to spend.

If you are asking about ECU engine installs versus old school, there are plenty of management systems out there for a swap like this. Jegs, Summit, to name a few have such systems.... Now, mounting and alignment of tranny and rear end may take some fab work. sounds like a cool project.

I have a good friend who purchased a 1967 Fairlane convertible brand new in April 1967. It was a white small block.
He painted it red white and blue, modified the engine, and drag raced it for several years. After about a decade, he put the motor back to stock and had a beautiful red paint job layed on it, and that's the way it looks today. It's a real nice piece of mid 6o's Americana. Still winning trophys.
