Kusheen - Take a look at this link...

http://www.elises.co.uk/problems/

Sure, it's not the US model, but it's an Elise. I personally like the Elise, but you may not be the best ambassador for the car. Relax...

Bullseye...Look through my posts...you'd be hard pressed to find where I said the Lotus is THE best. It's a very good car, does what it's designed to do very well, but the BEST? No. The US Version has, at least thus far, virtually NONE of the problems cited by Cindy2...I think he may have stumbled onto some old threads talking about the early European Elise's, which used the Rover K engine, not the current Toyota.

The current car is even cosmetically very different than the early Elise's, and has significant differences from the current euro car.

No, I can list many little gremlins the car has, just like any other. And I can also list the compromises folks must decide for themselves they're willing to make to own this kind of car.

The Lotus , it seems has corrosion problems in the footwells (could turn into a Flintstone Car); also head gasket problems; premature wear of the steering components. And!!! The confined design of the engine would result in a fire if their is a small oil leak near or on the engine. If anyone buys one I'll throw in a fire extinguisher along with Dan's $1,000.
Cindy2; why would you make this up? You must have some facts to support these problems with the LOTOY.
BTW, I thought you were a gal; I think the name gave you away.

I would gladly pay MSRP but must have factory carpet.

Sorry Cindy2, I did see your feminine handle, but I've often seen guys post under such names...I should've connected that the more feminine nature of the Crossfire does indeed attract more female buyers...my apologies...

but...please---don't adopt Dan's tactics-- don't throw a red herring...I made a mistake on your gender, but again...can you please cite your sources, THAT is the issue. The problems you cite frankly appear nowhere at all in any of the many sites I visit routinely that concern the Federal Elise.

I think you may have stumbled onto old data that describe some issues with the early european elises...the cars now are very different animals, and have an altogether different engine. The early cars used the Rover K engine, and indeed the Rover engines may have had oil leak problems.

The US cars are too NEW to be manifesting the problems you cite, frankly. There probably aren't many US cars with more than 7K on the odometer, even a bad steering rack lasts longer than that.

I don't have rose colored glasses on, no doubt the car will surface some gremlins of varying levels of criticality. But so far, the problems seem to be limited to a handful of cars with idle problems already fixed by an ECU flash, brake light switch needing some adjustment, and....well, that's about all anybody's come up with so far.

OR...given the problems you described...you might have accidentally stumbled onto an old Pontiac fiero site (just kidding).

PLEEEEEZEEEEE...cite your sources, if you intend to meaningfully contribute to the discourse.

Mbpec....the car comes with carpet, more carpet if you order the touring package, which has it's own MSRP. Are ALL surfaces carpted? No. But it does come with carpet. Where you put your feet. Which is where carpet should be.

Thanks, this is helpful, and it is as I suspected...all euro cars. These problems are not at all related to the 111R Federal Car.

I WILL say that MISS Cindy did overstate what she read, or what she partially read...the floor board corrosion for example.

Cindy intimated it was a corrosion through problem, even calling them the flintstone mobile. It was glib, but misleading and far from accurate.

Her source, which apparently was only half read, said the problem was in a very small number of cars (the euro cars have been sold since 1996, 10's of thousands sold), and the corrosion was only on the upper surface, NOT even remotely corroded through.

I don't mind a healthy give and take on the merits of any vehicle, the Lotus included. I don't think the Lotus is perfect and I have no problem citing what I DON'T like about it, informed as an owner.

But when somebody is stating something in the context of criticism, it is helpful if they are themselves thorough in what they're citing, but also citing their source accurately and in context.

That is what got Danny Boy into trouble, making an outrageous claim re a dealer selling below MSRP, then when it was quite obvious he was playing fast and loose with the truth, he has done the most remarkable song and dance one can imagine to try to save face when he had to admit that the cars were indeed being sold by the dealer at MSRP.

Best to just deal straight off the top of the deck. Miss Cindy, if you love your Crossfire, hate the Lotus, wish I'd just shut up and go away...best to just say so. Don't pull out irrelavant data to NOT prove your point!

Danny Boy, Danny Boy, Danny Boy.....

The problem is when you print something, your words come back to haunt you..."Been there done that all three for $1k under Msrp dealer said! Varrrrrrrrrroomkus"

Cut it any way you want, but everybody here knows what you were trying to imply with that statement, given the context of your rants.

You lost the bet. You are a liar. And you're welching.

And what's worse, you're doing an unbelievable dance to try to save face...and nobody's buying it...at msrp or any other price.

I don't think Cindy overstated what she read. I think you read too much into it. You seem very defensive. Relax! Remember, you're on a Crossfire web site.

Wasn't this fun?? Haven't argued this much since my divorce! I thought for a moment that the forum was for general discussion; NOT A COURT OF LAW! Besides why are we even discussing Lotoys? This is a CROSSFIRE SITE. I have no problem with anyone correcting me as to the models that are affected by these defects'; but it seems you make everything personal. Should we have an English professor read our posts to make sure that the grammar , punctuation, and syntax are correct; as well as check for run-on sentences? Apology accepted for the gender mistake; but did you have to feminize the Crossfire in doing so? Kind of a kick in the cajones to all the men Crossfire owners out there!!!!

Thought you didn't want to get into a Pissing contest, Cindy. Given your earnestness in my acknowledging your gender, that is probably a wise choice on your part, given the physics of such a contest.

And...please look at this particular thread...it is the OTHER CAR area of the forum. That is an area where cars OTHER than the CROSSFIRE can freely be discussed.

AND if you look at where the Lotus comes up in other threads, 9 times out of 10 Mr Crossfire, Danny Boy, is the one who raises the topic.

Again, Cindy, I don't have a problem with give and take, but if YOU are an honest person, you'll look back through all these threads and see that at worst, I'm an equal protagonist, and at best simply responding to the flatulence of Mr. Root.

Again, fair is fair...awaiting your chastisement of the other protagonist.

Finally, Cindy...why I take things personally: couldn't have anything to do with the personal aspersions cast my way (including your own, somewhat softened ones)? Just giving what I'm getting Cindy. Folks like you like to hit and run away, then feign righteousness when you get a little dirty.

ALL that said, I will say that on elise talk just today an interesting development is arising re the Lotoys (sorry Cindy, but this IS the OTHER CAR area)..there have been a couple low mileage transmission failures. Will keep an eye on that. Deja Vu, reminds me of the concern I had with my 6 speed Crossfire when their transmissions were tanking right and left.

Surprised nobody took me up on the 'shut up and go away' suggestion.

I'll take my own advice for awhile. Mr. Root has been exposed for the fraud he is. And it is quite amusing watching him dance and dodge trying to save face and eat his words. Like I said, that absolutely MADE my day!
