1988 Corvette with the Nash transmission. Felt my wallet fly out of my pocket every time I went by a mechanic. Wife's worst...2001 Baby-poop green Pontiac Aztec....doo doo for brakes, AC went right after warranty ran out (Common problem) seat spring popped thru drivers seat at 38K miles. And all the womenlaughed at me when I drove it.

I've never owned a car that I could truthfully say was the worst car I ever owned. I drove some questionable cars when I was younger but always managed to wheel and deal and sell them for a profit when the time came. That doesn't happen in today's market. You get a great deal on a car but it is still worth less than you paid for it in a very short period of time.

Just never could bring myself to pay the premium price they command (that '78 you spoke about sounds like a pretty good deal).
I've had three Vettes, 69, 84, 90, When I see a Vette that is not moving I just assume it's broken down. If I see one in a parking lot I will point it out to my wife and say "that guy sure was Lucky to break down there". If I see one at a light I make sure that I am in the other lane, He's not stopped at the light thats just were he broke-down. I loved my 90 Vette it was everything I ever wanted in a car. Except for that transportation thing. I could sit and look at it for hours, and I did, sometimes waiting for the tow truck other times just hanging around the dealer when they tried to fix it. I have had my heart broken by women, but this was the only car to do it. As for the 84 it should have been called (cease fire injection). Thats what everyone who had it called it.

I have only owned 3 cars in the 16 years I have been driving. The worst of the 3 would definitely be the 2nd one, it was a 1988 Dodge Omni.

Only owned that thing for about a year before moving up to car #3.

Time in use:
Car #1: 1 year
Car #2: 1 year
Car #3: 12 years and still going.

My worst car - a Skoda Estelle. 5 Speed gear box, 1.2 litre engine. Should have been far better than the previous Estelle I reluctantly parted with doe to old age.

The "better" Estelle managed to die on me in the first week - the starter motor packed in, and the gear stick kept breaking its connection with the gear box, resulting in obvious problems.

I took it back (or rather limped it back) and demanded a better car, which I got.

The prize for the worst car I have owned would have to go to the 1981 VW Vanagon.... loved it but It could always be counted on to fail somewhere enroute to wherever we were going.

The prize for the best car I have owned: 1996 Jeep Cherokee, 245,000 miles and still looks and runs about as good as the day I brought it home.

Some others I have owned over the years, in no particular order:
1952 Ford 2 door
1950 Chevy 2 door coupe
1950 Austin A50
1962 Impala 2 door HT
1949 MG TC
1957 Chevy Bel Air 2 door hardtop
1955 Chevy 2 door Bel Air sedan
1967 Shelby GT 350 (still dream about it sometimes)
1969 Lincoln Continental
1969 Chevy Chevelle Concours
1972 AMC Gremlin (couldn't be killed)
1979 VW Van
1991 Ford Aerostar Van
1979 Toyota Landcrusier
1981 Toyota Landcrusier
1993 Toyota PU
1994 Toyota Tundra PU
2004 Jeep Rubicon
2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee** (still own)
2003 Jeep Liberty
1996 Lincoln Continental
1958 Chevy Apache PU
1964 Chevy 1/2 ton PU

Worst car? 1975 Form Mustang. You could smell the engine oil leak through the vents.

My worst car was also one of my favorite cars. 1974 Audi 100LS. Good size good handling comfortable ride. I bought it is 1980 for $600 with about 50K miles on it. Engine seized in 1982 and I rebuilt it. A maintenance nightmare but I was into fixing cars at the time. Ran it until 1990 when the jack went through the body and the drivers seat fell through the floorboards. Car was a rust bucket. Sold it for $700 with about 120K miles on it.

My worst ever was a 1970 VW 1500 automatic station wagon.
Bought it for $200, drove it one year ( when it would start ) and sold it to a real sucker for $1000.

1990 BMW 325iC

Beautiful, drove awesome.

Electrical problems out the wazoo!

The brain box was in the drivers door with a pigtail between the body and the door.

No big deal you say.... well the bright lights in Bavaria speced out two different metals for each side of the connector...

Can you say corrosion....

Beautiful day, drop the top (manual top only took like 5 seconds to drop and stow), jump in, hit start....nothing.

Retrieve can of electrical cleaner and pipe cleaners from the console, dissasemble the pigtail grommet and connector. Spray the brass side and run pipe cleaners through the connectors until you no longer get green. (all the while getting lots of stares from all the ladies in the parking lot LOL) Reassemble the connection. Start up and drive off. Usually happened twice a week.

Beyond that lots of phantom power issues all over the place.

Owned 9 months and had had enough; traded for 1989 MB 300SE

Some things do not change. Old but very interesting thread.

Wierd thing is I have owned many of the cars listed such as a Chevette (which I really enjoyed and respected for doing its intended mission well), a Corvette (whose top went down great with one hand while still seated but whose high door line never felt right), a TR7 (which in all fairness I never got to run so cannot evaluate), a few VWs which just never got the juices flowing and a few more. I was suprised that others shared the counterintuitive emotion to give the top slot for both worst and favorite to the same car.

Mine would be a car I followed for six years through three owners to buy, a special order red on grey manual 1986 Audi Turbo Quattro Avant a car whose ride, practicality, beauty of form and function I have yet to equal again. The problem was not this advanced car's fault but rather the local dealer who installed the wrong brake master cylinder which caused the brakes to lock up after just a few miles of use baffling me and many a mechanic for years afterwards.

My worst car was a 2007 Chrysler 300 Touring, I like to run my cars for 10 years and this car lasted a painful 6 years. Never really liked it from the get go and it gave me no reason to improve on those feelings. I wonder why I purchased it in the first place.

Because back in 2007 it was the bee's knees !
You didn't like it cause you never got around to putting on those 22" Davins like all the rest of the 2007's that are still running

Funny, back in 2006 I also looked at a 300, I retained my sanity and bought a primo used 2002 Concorde Limited for 1/4 the price instead. Still have it.

I had the '93 Concorde new and the '95 LHS used with 30,000 miles on it in '99, probably two of the best cars I ever had, they had their problems but my wife worked at a Chrysler dealership and the many repairs were cheap.

Nice cars to drive on a long journey.

There were not many of the LHS models around and one day I came out of a store, jumped in the car and found the key did not fit. It was just dawning on me that my interior was a different color when the owner rapped on the window and pointed to my car parked over the road. They both had the green exterior.

I parked the blue Concorde at the airport parking and went away for a couple of days, coming back I went to the correct floor and could not find my car, there was a green one there but not mine. I went to the floors above and below, no car. I went back to the floor and section I had written down. I looked at the green Concorde a bit closer and found it was my car. The fluorescent lights changed the color. Another half hour wasted in my life.

Had an absolutely awful Ford Escort in the early 90s. Was so bad. All sorts of mechanical problems and the added advantage of having females laugh at your vehicle. Oh boy!

Biggest POS I had was a 2002 Ford Focus, I bought it new and only owned it for 5 months, 4 of which it spent at the Dealers being sorted out for a multitude of problems. No lemon law here but FofC finally, reluctantly offered me full purchase price credit on another new vehicle. I got a Ford Explorer and kept it for 12 years of trouble free driving (for the most part). Replaced it with a Mercedes GLK diesel, love it!
